Also (I'm guessing I'm OK to post this here) - a friend and I got an update from our dealer today re: the SP1, and I'll summarise what I suspect might already be elsewhere.

- First batch of SP1's ETA - January 2025, which will mean about Feb-March for Australia
- 4 iterations:
  • Ducati White, Pablo Pickguard, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, Standard Headstock
  • Black Gloss, Gold Pickguard, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, Standard Headstock
  • Vintageburst, Gold Pickguard, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, Standard Headstock
  • Dark Candy Green, Gold Pickguard, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, Standard Headstock
- Full passive, no preamp (as expected)

Note these are pre-production/prototype photos, so the finishes may look a little different in production. The black in particular is a matte finish whereas the production version will be gloss.

I'm definitely keen on the Candy Green!

What’s the pickguard color for the ducati white finish? There’s a minor typo in the post :)

So, just a little over a year ago I sent a deposit to Jason at FretNation for my first ever Custom Dingwallbuild.
He contacted me a little over a week ago to finalize my specs.
Words alone can’t express the level of service I have received from him. I know he’s very busy and made it a point to not bug him to death but he wanted me to ask every little question even if I thought they were meaningless.
He was very helpful in helping me make up my mind on things by explaining the pros and cons of various details. He didn’t act like a salesman.
The feeling I got was that he was genuinely concerned with my happiness and the final product and not so much about the money. He didn’t try to sell me on this and that. For that I am ever grateful.
I’m actually glad that I had to wait for my time. I had plenty of time to think and at the end my specs for my dream bass drastically changed from what I initially had in mind.
I’m told that it should be going into production sometime around the end of this month with a 2 to 3 month build time. I’m hoping to see it maybe by the end of the year but if not , I’m ok with that.
So at this point you maybe wondering what my final specs ended up at so here are my Dingwall dream bass specs.

I will wait and let you all be the Guinea Pigs.
None of those color options stimulate my senses. In my opinion they all mismatch one way or the other, it just won't come together for my eyes. Could have worked with a dark (think Wenge) neck. But not like that.
I am sure there will be all sorts of "editions" in the future ... :)

Love the concept of the SP1 and think it's a good move by Dingwall. I think any of the gold pickguard basses would look so much better with any other (even random) pickguard color choice. While I don't normally like white guitars, the Ducati White does look pretty nice. Maybe later batches will have other choices.

Would a matching headstock be nice? Yep. But I had no expectation that would happen, and since my first ever bass was a MiM Fender J, the idea of a maple headstock on a dark fretboard and body isn’t a deal breaker. I really want that green one, but also am going to need a replacement pickguard. Even plain black would do just fine.

Oh I'm right there with you. It's getting swapped for a black PG as soon as third-party ones are available (or if Dingwall do an aftermarket one).
I'm assuming at this point they're not an exact match for the Super P pickguard, but we'll see.

I want Ducati White but with the gold pickguard, so I hope I'll be swapping with someone who wants tort-ish!

I think I remember reading that, while not an exact match for the Super P pickguards, the SP1 guards were designed to be easily changed out without messing with electronics. (Anyone please correct me if that's misinformation!)

Unless they changed the design last minute, the electronics are not mounted underneath the pickguard like in a typical P bass or even the Super Ps.

The SP1s I’ve seen had a rear electronics cavity cover

Totally agree.

Even a headstock overlay matching the fretboard would be a huge improvement. The maple sticks out like a sore thumb against the dark finishes and rosewood boards IMHO. A Pau Ferro or rosewood overlay wouldn't cost a ton, and they'd still only need one version of the neck rather than several matched to body colors.
