Dingwall Owners Club

There is a bass builder on the Dingwall site?
Somewhat, but either the prices haven't been updated or Dingwalls are lower priced than I thought.

After you fill it out, it shows the updated prices in confirmation. One of several oddities with the Dingwall site.

I think prices went up 20% across the board, so it's easy to just add a total = total x 1.20 calculation. Fortunately, I locked in on the waitlist and I'm close. Now, I'm just trying to decide. That's tough.
It would be an easy calculation if it was just the 2023 price list, but the prices listed on the form are pre-2023, I'm not exactly sure what year. I'll share some of the quotes from my ABZ build if it helps.

I've been in the same boat - it's difficult to not second guess the decision when balancing specs/budget with almost too many great options.

Who has played both an ABX and a D-ROC? I like the thought of a D-ROC, but with the strap point back a few frets compared to an AB, is the reach on a D-ROC longer? I'm 5'8", so I'm worried about reaching for that first fret.
The reach to the first fret is actually shorter on the D-roc. It sits a little more toward your right side . Or maybe not sits to the right, but the design is that the end of the body extends to the right of where it hangs on your body to complete the long scale.

We need to see some holiday present (treat yo self counts) Dingwall pics!

Does anyone know of any 40-120 gauge strings that fit a Dingwall scale length? I feel a 120 or 125 would feel better at this scale length. I know of DR HI-Beams would be a good fit.

I feel your pain - there's definitely a lack of lighter super long scale sets. Kalium or Payson might sell you custom sets if you contact them. Here on the EU side, Pyramid offers sets and single strings in super long scale, but building sets from singles gets expensive pretty quick.

Only DR strings labeled "extra long scale" clear the nut on a 37" B. I find the multiscale sets from major string manufacturers poorly balanced, though. They're still in business of making strings for basses designed in the 1950s.

Aside from the fact that the prices are out of date. The other thing to note about that bass builder, is that it was for the ABZ only, which is the entry-level model in the Custom series.

It’s the perfect option for anyone looking for a super-light instrument, as the lack of a fancy top, matte open-grain finish, etc., help to keep the ounces off.

However, there’s a significant price jump if you go for a full-on Afterburner with the gloss finish, etc.
