It's hard to tell from the ad, but I'm sensing he didn't like the stock version very much;)

Critical tone aside, it's kind of interesting to see stuff like this. You get to see another's version of what you do.

I think the symmetrical control array is pretty cool looking. The ABM's look good. I'm not sure how well the narrower bridge spacing would intonate - it might be an issue, it might not.

The second last photo is a good lesson to anyone changing out pickups that require drilling new holes. Always double check your drill depth to make sure you're not going to drill through the back of the bass. (take the body off the table, lower the bit all the way and make sure there's at least 1/4" of room between the tip of the drill bit and the table surface)

It's really easy to drill too deep and pretty much impossible to repair invisibly if you go through.

Actually, the ABM installs look pretty bad on closer inspection (I have the full-size originals) and if you don't care for 16.5-17 mm spacing, you're pretty much screwed. I kinda like the drill-throughs as they provide needed ventilation for the Bart pups.

Yeah. While at first glance it looks like a chance to get an AB on the cheap...

...It looks like there would be a lot of 'restoration' to do to it and that some of the mods/mistakes are not reversible. :(

Of course, the first step would be to put 'real' pickups back in, but how would you deal with removal of the bridge pieces (which look to be installed at uneven widths), the holes in the back of the body, that horrid Carvin battery pod, and of course you could never get the neck profile back in shape.

I guess if you don't care about such things, it would be a bargain.

It's Flame Maple Top in Custom High Gloss Tobacco Burst Finish #1 of 12

Alder body with tone chambers (no pickguard or front control plate)

5pc maple neck (22fr) maple fingerboard with black blocks, dual carbon spars with skunk stripes

Matching headstock

SJ5 Mach II pickups, w/ master vol, 4 position rotary switch, Aguilar OBP-1 w/ Hybrid Treble, Bass active passive switch

Not to be an ass, I am just confused because all those bold features aside from the tabacco burst finish are listed as standard options for the SJ5 according to the 2008 price guide. . although the color itself would be enough to call it limited edition. . .

I must be missing something here but oh well it is beautiful none the less.

Come to think of it you can probably consider any of Sheldons basses to be limited edition as I have yet to see two the EXACT same.

Oh by all means it is a beautiful bass "limited edition" or not, I was just curious if there was something REALLY different about it since it is in a limited edition series.

I guess Sheldon's the man to clarify but I have a feeling it is because of the finish. Which is beautiful by the way.
