Dingwall Owners Club

I think your friend will be stoked & blown away with a 2 pickup Combustion (that was my gateway Dingwall 12 or 13 years ago).
I haven’t kept up with the imports as much but I know some of the 2 pickup ones are routed for a 3rd pickup and Dingwall sell the 3rd pickup separately.
You were right! He was absolutely stoked this morning. Thanks for the advise!

Yup! Me too.

The gold with the sunburst is chef's kiss! Only wish it was matte/satin, but it's so friggin' nice. May end up picking this up sooner than anticipated.
I guess you could try using a very fine sandpaper to turn it into a matte/satin finish

Does anyone here have one of the 2025 ng3 with the minimalist bridge? How does it compare to the individual saddles? I'm trying to decide if I should wait for the new models to become available in the US or go for an available 2024 model.

Wait. The minimalist bridge is a functional and beautiful design. Major upgrade to the NG.

I've heard they will eventually release it as an upgrade for the NG, hopefully with no drilling required.

I have also heard that you need to ship the bass to an authorized installer because the minimalist is actually recessed into the body a little. Maybe someone else can confirm or deny this, but this makes it a $500+ upgrade when you factory in shipping both ways.

Ugh, that complicates things. I was hoping it would be a $175 part I could self install.

With the separate single bridge pieces, are each one of them grounded individually or are they connected to each other and a single bridge wire goes to the cavity?

I've also heard this rumor. Really hoping those of us who can handle the routing ourselves can get "authorized" to do our own by signing a waiver or something. I'd 100% do the upgrade myself but someone else's labor plus shipping makes it probably not worth it.

Question, got my NG3 2 weeks ago and got it set up by my luthier. The setup is great, with the exceptions of the screws sticking out at the G string. Is this normal? I've seen bridges all over without these screws sticking up. Needless to say, one wrong move and I'll end up pretty cut up!

It is what it is, if that’s your set up. I’d go to the hardware store and buy a couple shorter replacements screws. Or you could try cutting the screws shorter.

I’ve bought shorter saddle screws when the combination of larger untapered strings and low action could not be achieved.

I don’t palm mute much on my basses, but on guitar this kind of thing drives me crazy. And right down to the hardware store.

A neck shim is the other solution, but then you might find some of the screws are too short.

You can see it being recessed into the body here, for example:

Regarding the single bridges, there a single exposed ground wire running underneath all of them. So, one wire to the cavity.

I saw something somewhere that said the whole bridge can be adjusted up or down so that the 'saddles' are only required for fine tuning.

Regarding the fanned frets - I presume that the extreme fret angles of 32-35" are the same as 34-37" being that the multi-scale is still over 3"?

I wasn't totally comfortable up high on the 34-37" but then the bass I had didn't have any front dots either, which didn't help.

I'll probably wait until more demos emerge but I like the Vintage Sunburst.

On a custom build, would you drop the 3 pickup option, and go with 2, in favor of other esthetical options like color of speedo bars?

Especially if you never use the middle pickup. 😉

Me personally, if I am ordering a custom Dingwall, I would tend to lean towards getting the third pickup (even if I didn't think I would use it) and if that meant just saving the extra money for it, I would do that. Know that you will have a long time until you need to pay the balance for the bass (your dealer should not be charging you the full amount up front). I would just save a little extra each month. I wouldn't want any regrets when ordering a custom.

Do you know what the hex size is?

I already stretched my budget twice 😂, and honestly, I listened to all the video I could, and I find that the neck+ bridge tone sounds better on the 2 pickup version. I think the pickups are not in the exact same position as the 3 pickup version.

Gotcha, I think you know which way to go then! Grab those fancy fret inlays ;)

If I’m not mistaken, the pickups are also angled slightly differently in the 3x vs 2x pickup config.

After recently looking over some wiring diagrams for 2x vs 3x setups, I realized the 2x selectors seem to include an option for Bridge + Neck (Series) which is NOT one of the options on the 3x selector. 3x selectors seem to only have Bridge + Neck (Parallel) while the 2x has Bridge + Neck in both Parallel and Series.

I currently have a custom 6-way selector on my D-ROC Custom 5, and the Bridge + Neck (Series) setting is probably my favorite of all, so it was interesting to see this setting exists on 2x models but NOT 3x (at least, without a custom selector).

Maybe that’s why the Bridge + Neck seemed to sound better on the 2x? Either way, I was a bit surprised to learn that setting only exists on 2x models.
