You'll be fine with 2. I have a 3x and honestly I mostly use the configs from the 2x. If it is a newer model Combustion you can actually add the third pickup later.

The one I'm trying to take the preorder over for from someone that changed their mind was supposed to be in the first batch, which would've meant it'd be delivered in the next few weeks... But unfortunately the shop said they won't actually get the green ones until July / august :confused:

Nooooo. That sucks. I hope it arrives sooner, and on this side of the pond too. The other side of it is I've had my dark candy green one pre-ordered since October so what's another couple of months wait I guess 🙃

Here's the SP1 video from the Dingwall website, it's still unlisted for some reason.


I had pre-ordered a white 5-string SP1 from Bass Central, but the day after I saw someone on Instagram playing a Vintageburst one and thought it looked really sharp. I called BC up and they helped me change my order. I've had some second thoughts, but the more I see the Vintageburst the more I like it. Mine should be in the first batch!

I’m usually not too much into sunburst finishes, but I really like how Dingwall pulled off the vintage burst here. It’s probably my favorite finish of the SP1s

Agreed.

Something about the combination of pure 57 p bass aesthetic combined with the modern stylings of Sheldon created something that really caught my eye.

Can't help but think that a green more along the Sherwood lines with a gold guard would look incredible as well.

It’s a 2021 ABII, which was originally built for NAMM 2021 to show off Dingwall’s segmented fretlines for Dingwall’s fretless offerings. However, rather than going to the show, it instead had a new ovangkol neck built and was sent to the brilliant George Baldwin. Here it is in action being played far better than I could ever hope for:



Dingwall really helped me with this one, with Ryan (who I think frequents this forum) giving me the extra background, and Evan helping me find the strap I was looking for.

It joins an NG3 and D-Roc Custom but brings something else entirely to the table with its Glockenklang preamp and chambered walnut body.

My NG3 is currently with a local luthier (explained below) but when it comes back I can sit and do a proper comparison.

For now though and from memory, I’ll note that they’re quite different beasts. The ABII feels lighter (it is lighter but it feels very light to me) and the chambering means it resonates beautifully and sounds quite loud without amplification. The neck also seems easier to play, which I think in part comes from how smooth the ovangkol is.

The NG3 sounds good but I was always surprised at how clean it sounded compared to say the beefiness of my Warwicks. For that reason, it’s currently with my local luthier having FDVs fitted, which are what I have on my D-Roc. The D-Roc has the growl I was seeking, and my ABIIs both have FDVs, so I’m used to that tone. It’s not that I don’t like the stock NG3 pick-ups but I love the D-Roc tone and, as it’s passive, I figure that’s the most representative version of the FDV tone.

I’m expecting to pick up the NG3 in the next couple of weeks or so and I’ll try to remember to provide a fuller write-up. Please feel free to remind me on here or via a DM.
