Those old AB2 often has the bluEQube in it. The switch closer to the neck turns it on/off (it's a mid shift). The switch closer to the bridge is the active/passive switch. The knobs, going from neck to bridge, should be: Volume, Rotary pickup selector, Bass (boost only IIRC), Treble (boost only IIRC).

If the Active/Passive switch was causing it to "kill", I'd suspect dead batteries first. Easy enough to test. If the bluEQube switch was acting as a kill, that's unfortunate, but also easy to test.

Makes sense about the pre. I didn’t date it that far back and come to think of it I don’t recall if those pups are 4L

Hey it's me again with some other questions about the bass. How do the series parallel switches really work? When the bridge and middle are in series and I flick either the m or b switch up, do they turn into parallel? I'm a bit confused by this and don't really understand that. Can someone shed some light on this for me. Thanks

S/P switches are for the coils of the individual pickup, not the combination of pickups. So when you flip the S/P toggle for the bridge pickup, the moves the coils for the bridge pickup between series and parallel. And so on.

I'll add that each individual pickup is like a p pickup, they're split coils. You just can't tell with the covers on. So the switch changes how each pickup is internally wired to itself, not the other pickups.

Random question: So I just got my first Dingwall, an 5 String NG-3 about 6 weeks ago and I'm jonesing for a D-Roc. I know the hot flavor is the SP-1, and I will eventually try to pick one up next year. Question is, should I get a D-Roc? Is there any ground that I'm not covering or missing out on by not having a D-Roc or am I just simply just wanting another bad*** bass for the sake of having another bad*** bass? Or should I just save my pennies for the SP-1 that I eventually plan on picking up?

Thoughts?

The only things that are a big difference would be, body shape, slight difference in pickup placement (slightly different tone) and you have a passive tone control.

well, i think this video might help. I actually like the D-Roc the most here.

I would sell the NG and get a D-Roc and save money for the SP-1 :).

Actually i wait for the Fast Lane myself.
