No. I think if you're looking for that level of specificity, you're looking at finding someone to make a set to retrofit.

Do you find something wrong with any of the stock Dingwall pickup choices?

I wouldn't be surprised if that level of specificity was available in the Prima series basses, but keep in mind that Mr D has designed EVERY aspect of these basses to work well together and deliver a cohesive whole.

Let him know what you have & what you're looking for -- he'll steer you in the right direction.

No one knows & understands these basses the way he does.

I wouldn't say "wrong", I would say it's just not necessarily what I'm looking for, with the caveat being that I've only heard recordings of Dingwalls, and have never been able to hear their in-person amplified tone.

But, $2-3k on a bass is a LOT of money for me, more than I've ever spent on anything else in my life. And if I'm going to spend that much the bass would have to be basically perfect.

I feel like if I had the freedom to experiment a little with windings and such on the pickups I could really dial in the tone to be exactly what I want. Obviously EQ plays a role as well.

If you get a Dingwall, you probably won't feel the need to mess with custom pickups. What kind of gear would you be playing through?

UPS showed up this afternoon ImageUploadedByTalkBass1389999482.732648.jpg

It was strung up with D'adario chrome flats. I was kinda disappointed when I first fired it up. It sounded...fine. Played great, looked great and as light as a feather, but the sound was really just fine. Put the original Dingwall spec'd round wounds on and my mood lifted considerably :)

Straighten out the neck in 1/8th turn increments until you get a little buzzing when playing in the lower postions, then back off the truss-rod until the buzz goes away. The longer the neck, them more radically truss-rod adjustments will affect the action.

Mark, I know that you play telephone cables for strings. Try the Dingwall nickels as a baseline, then go from there.

That looks like a distant cousin of my SJ5. Is that finished in satin, or is it high gloss like the SJ?

It must be hard to keep copper strings in tune. ;)

Mark - I have a virtually new set of Dingwall nickels. If you'd like to give them a try, give me a PM.

Zoomie - these do have a satin finish.

It's a satin finish...I typically play .50-.115 gauge, but have been thinking about going a bit lighter. I think the Dingwall strings that came in the gig bag were...stainless? They sound and feel pretty good. I actually like flats on some of my basses, but the flats that came on the Super P were just kind of...terrible, to me :hmm:
