To me, the FDV sounds just a bit better than the FD3n. There may be an Umansky signature in my future.
As a side note, it's pretty funny that Sheldon and Jacob held a bass clinic in a Taiwan Popeyes. I'm sure there's a story behind that!

I've had all 3 pickup types in different Dingwalls over the years. I really like the FDV tone but remember the output level was low compared to the other two. Can anyone who has a P-Tone neck/SFII bridge pickup comment on the neck/bridge tone? I'm thinking about P-tone/SFII/SFII pickups with mahogany body and Neve pre for an Effigy build. Thx.
It's hereeeee. I've inspected the box and took the case (and some goodies) out of the box, but, haven't yet opened the case. Definitely want to give it a little time to acclimate before that. Gah. Hard to just sit here with the case beside me while I work though haha.
Question for anyone who has replaced their individual string bridges with a single block bridge, whether that's Nova or Payson (I'm excluding the Dingwall minimalist since from my understanding it's not available yet), have you noticed an increase in sympathetic vibration from other strings that you've had to mindfully adjust your technique to minimize?
I can't tell if you were considering this possibility, but I'd double check whether mixing FDVs (or any of the alnico pickups) with any of the neo pickups are offered. When I was looking at a pickup swap I was informed that the FDVs would experience interference and eventual damage. I believe others had mixed and matched without noticing issues however, but that was the official recommendation I received
That bass is so beautiful. I got to see it in person the day I picked up my new Z.

It's great to have options, and we all have our different preferences. I have always thought I favored FD3's in the past, but I have to say, those Super Fatty II's actually sounded more open and Hi-Fi in John's demo. I may have to try a set in one of my Dingwalls.
This bass showed up today.
I just spent the last two hours playing it. What a bass! The fretless feel is very intuitive. I'm going to play it at a show here in suburban Seattle on Saturday. Very psyched.

We'll be playing at the Lucky 7 in Totem Lake, Kirkland on Saturday from 7 - 9. This is my jam band, lot's of improv and fun for me to have. We'll do two sets and the fretless Dingwall with get one of them.

Sliiiight issue with the Prima. Overall, the bass is, of course, stellar. It ticks every right box for what I was hoping it would be. Both Jason and Dingwall are already handling this (Jason responded within minutes, Dingwall replied to my email already today), too, and I have zero concerns.
The Neve in it is acting... strange, though. Firstly, the push/pull is reversed -- "up" (pulled away from the bottom) is active. I think. It has a noticeable jump up in volume when I pull it up, at least. In the down position, turning the EQ knobs has no effect. In the up/active position, they do, but, it's far less noticable than the Neve in my Z.
It's getting handled, as I mentioned, and I don't have a worry in the world that it's going to be any kind of problem. In the meantime, it sounds like an absolute monster even "passive". I played it for at least a couple of hours yesterday and honestly didn't even feel bad when I figured out what was going on with the pre. I was more relieved that it wasn't my mind/ears playing jokes on me, haha. Looking forward to getting more time playing it here in a little bit! Family photos later today...
Edit: Forgot to add, I didn't think to ask which rotary switch was in it. It has the "normal" / not-DRoc one in there. I prefer the DRoc rotary, so, I asked Jason if he has one in stock, and he does. So it should be here at some point. If I have to do a full preamp swap, I'll swap that in at the same time as that work. The middle-solo and all-on positions are pretty much what I stick with, even with the 6 position rotary I have in another Z.

Dingwall weekend in Seattle! I'll be in Arlington on Saturday night at the Angel of the Winds Casino with 40oz to Freedom (sublime tribute) and I'm bringing my SP1..

The Neve in my new Z wasn't working properly, tons of distortion. DW/Jason took care of me with the quickness.
Something I'm having a slight issue with though, the SF2/Neve combo is such a hi-fi tone, im having trouble finding what project to use it with..
my lady pointed out the other day that anything slap sounds like John Taylor amd I can't get that out of my head now. I've never been a fan of that super clean, precise and hi-fi tone.. Im betting a set of FDV's would have been a better choice for my purposes.
I've heard many promotions for your show on the radio. Your SP1 should do a great job. I won't be able to make it for obvious reasons but have a fantastic show!
