I would as I live in the jazz config. While I could live with a 2 pickup version in the jazz config (Z1?), I would miss the middle pickup that I use as a ramp. So for me, anything less than 3 would have me missing out. But that’s just me.

I'm looking to change up my Spectra for something. Or keep it and add another...
So, since Talkbass has threads that are ancient and this thread alone has nearly 3200 pages, I'll just ask politely: could someone direct me to some good resources on the benefits and/or pitfalls of fanned fret basses? Being Canadian, we both know what bass I'd consider... though I'm not sure that I like the Darkglass preamp, since just about everyone seems to pan it.

Nice! @IvanBassist Do you mind sharing what your signal path and pickup setting were? I loved the groove, I don't know the song. Is it a known tune? original work? improvisation?

I'm glad somebody bought the Ari Gold ABZ4 that Fretnation had in-stock. Was thinking hard about it, but I have an Effigy on order. You can't buy another Dingwall while you have one on order? Can you?

Yeah, I was mostly concerned that I'd have a huge tax bill this year. Turned out not to be the case and "Poof!", it was gone.
You never know which Dingwall you will fall in love with. A few weeks after taking delivery of my custom (Ari gold) 2025 Z3 I spotted a beautiful and barely used 2024 SJ5 on Reverb at a price too good to be true. It was the seller’s custom order and his first Dingwall. He decided he could not live with the fanned frets because it was too difficult to play chords above the 12th fret. Anyway I snatched it up, knowing that I could resell it at or above the price I paid for it. So there I was with my new custom Z3 and a virtually new SJ5. I ended up falling in love with the SJ5, and sold the Z3 for about what I paid for it. Even though the specs on the Z3 were my custom choices, it didn’t have the mojo I expected. I ordered it with SFII pickups and the Neve preamp which may have had something to do with it.The SJ5 has the DG pre and FDV pickups.
I feel so outta place here these days.

The other says, “ you have everything covered now and then some extra… but such a juicy way that future GAS has been cured. Keep 5-6 to keep DAS at bay”
The future I’m chasing doesn’t have room for excess or baggage but when it’s Dingwall baggage it’s somehow justifiable. Ugh.

My problem.. I play in multiple projects, each with their own tuning. My reggae NG3 bass is standard with flats, KK3 V2 is for a band that's half step down, KK3 V1 is tuned ACGCF, the SP1 is standard but I need rounds for that project and I do fly gigs with it since it's the "cheaper" DW. I can't stand just "tuning down", I much prefer playing a bass that's set up for the tuning I'm in.
The new Z is standard, but I have no idea what I'm gonna play that bass with. It sounds very different from the rest with the Neve/SF2 combo.

Truthfully a five and a six are perfect to have the right pups and pre in each bass to give to ALL the tonal flexibility. Plus toggles mix and match your pre amp and pups Darkglass and FDV’s
Neve and super fatties or visa versa. And your good

The new Prima is currently in standard tuning and likely to stay in that. The Prima 5 string is tuned half step down, along with the blue/red Z3. Bloodmoon burst Z is in full step down, and the drop tuner gets a workout on that one.
The 6 string AB1 is currently in F standard but it's going to get restrung and a new nut once I get some time, and start off in full step down tuning.
The other two ABs are just not played much anymore. In fact, my partner is getting one so I'm going to put new electronics in it and tidy it up, then I don't have to think about it - I imagine it'll be in standard tuning pretty much exclusively. The last AB I really don't know what to do with it. It's not really worth selling soooo... probably become the new electornics mule.
