Tried to convince the wife I really should buy this one, it would be the last bass I would ever buy. She told me that was what I said when I bought my Combustion.

Something about she would prefer a trip to Mexico more than she would watch me playing a new bass hinted at where she stood.

Oh well, maybe the next one, the DAS seed has been planted.

Let me clarify that the same roasted maple neck is in both pictures but mounted to the different bodies, the neck from the spalted maple body is walnut and wenge fingerboard which was similar to what I had originally on my redwood body but since I found of the wenge stuff not to my liking, I ordered that roasted maple one instead and sold the wenge/walnut to a man in the US who used it as a fretless to be project.

We'll send that super P5 my way I'll make sure it doesn't feel left out while the J gets a workout.

Actually, don't do that. I've taken a vow not to touch those, I have enough DAS pains with all the "long" scale offerings out there!

Jeff, you and I have got to get together. You are the guy that got me to take a look a Dingwalls in the first place. Without your commentary, I wouldnt be sitting here happier than a pig in a mud !

For those trying to figure out if passive will be enough to find the tone you're looking for, I have a story.

A fellow TBer came on board to help out with bass duties at our church. Last night was his first rehearsal so I headed down to make sure he was comfortable with stage rig and offer moral support.

He's playing a MM Sterling with TI flats of all things, and it is easily the best sounding MM that I have ever heard. Sounds absolutely monster through the mains! I am not a fan of flats, but jiminy, I'd happily rock that tone.

We were BSing about EQ, he referred to the active electronics in the Dings as opposed to the MM. I responded with what electronics? Both the SJ5 and SP5 are passive. He thought I was pulling his leg. He said, "you're getting THAT tone, passively?"

Why yes. Yes I am. :hyper:

When I bought my passive ABZ5 and I took it home, I removed the control cover on the back of the body to make sure there wasn't a 9V Duracell in there as I could not believe it was passive, and I thought that the guy in the shop that sold it to me was having me on...

Well, I am absolutely loving the Super P with it's new reverse black pick guard...so much so in fact that I'm strongly considering having Barry send me an FD3 to install in the bridge position so I can use it for ALL of my gigs :D

That way I don't have to wait until September/October to scratch that itch...either way it'll be seeing some stage time again tomorrow at the Hermosa Beach Surf Fest through an Aguilar DB750 and two DB410's :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

That would be like two alcoholics meeting for "just a beer" lol! Next day, I'd be trying to find a "Super" series, you'd be looking for a Z or AB series!

Need to do that anyway, risky or not.

Have been talking to a couple of locals on here about another ETTB GTG, that would be a perfect opportunity to get a bunch of Dingwalls (and obviously, other fine gear) in the same room again!

Are there any fretless Super basses out there? In 5 string form? If so, keep them far away, cuz the only bass I could absolutely justify is a fretless Super P/ FD3... My ABZ just kills all other fretted bass in my collection , but they stay for sentimental reasons.

None that I know of. I have a fretless neck on order for my Super P. That should be the first. Waiting ....
