I think they do the combustion with a rosewood board... They'll do a natural finish... Just have to sweet talk them into the pickguard (or have one made by an outside company). Not so sure they'd do the Darkglass pre on anything but the NG though.

They aren't even doing the Darkglass preamps on the NG's yet to my knowledge, last I heard they (Darkglass) were still working on the design or manufacturing.
They are doing EMG's in the NG-2 for at least the first run, if not the future.

This might be as close as you can get with a "normal" combustion, I guess. Props to @Bocete for his great playing
Actually this is just about perfect. And makes me DAS hard for another bass. Now I need to figure out if it is going to be a NG-2, or a combustion with the pick ups at the bridge, or a used active Dingwa...
Well, based on your history with MusicMan basses, I'd think one of the dual-bridge pickup Combustions would be a slam-dunk.
My Z2 definitely felt like "home" after several years on a MusicMan Sterling -- I eventually grew to prefer the neck pickup tone from my Afterburner, but Dingwall does a MEAN take on the MusicMan tone.
Course, a used Z2 nowadays would be silly expensive, but that black/maple Combustion in Bocete's videos would be RIGHT down my alley, especially since the neck contour has been thinned down...
Yeah, which puts me back to Combustion, NG-2, or used Z series, and figuring out what options I want/can afford.
There are just so many options. I told the club members several months ago for my plans for a Capri Orange Super P/ FD3, but then I realized I could get an equally amazing ABZ5XXX with the Voodoo Switchblade system in a sweet, warm, autumn-like burst.
Honestly, I could live with my ABZ5 and a fretless DW. But for fretless, would I go for a Super series for the lower tension (I've got a fretless with 105-45 strings tuned down to C# that is the greatest of fretless tones)? Or an ABZ 5 with slightly lighter strings so I can still have a sweet, singing, huge low B?
When I can finally afford to order another Dingwall, I honestly don't know what I'm gonna get. And who knows what ELSE Sheldon and Co. will have out by that point?!

I actually searched for fingerstyle soundclips upon reading this discussion, didn't find any. Entirely forgot I made some.
My Combustion has a John East EBMM preamp in it and, when I had it installed, the sound changed substantially. For the better I feel, I like the MusicMan sound. Anyway, the Reel Big Fish clip is recorded with no compression or eq outside the preamp's contribution. The stock Combustion does not sound like that, and I didn't spend enough time with the stock preamp to really explain how. All I know is that I smiled instantly and a lot more since installing it.

Well I decided to leave my AB1 as is. I already sold the F3 that the previous owner swapped out for a P tone pickup. All I have left is the BluEQube switch and pots.
