I'd like to compare its sound to the final specs.

I have a question over on the DW forum and on FB, but I thought I would ask it here too.
Are all the V4's routed for the NG-2 pick up orientation? Would it be possible to order a V4 combustion with the Darkglass pre amp, natural body, rosewood neck, and an uncut pick guard or get a templet? I lust after the NG-2, but also lust after a rosewood fingerboard.

I asked Barry the same question...both the V4 and NG-2 are universally routed and can take either the NG or standard Combustion setup with an appropriately cut pick guard.
I very much doubt you'd be able to order a Combustion with the Darkglass preamp, but Darkglass will be selling them individually in a month or so
Hard to say. The matte black CV4 that was posted looks to have a similar knob placement. Hoping that it will be an option.

Both the V4's and and the NG-2's have identical knob layouts as far as I can tell, but I'd assume the Darkglass preamp isn't an upgrade option (at least at the moment) for a few reasons:
Both models are pretty heavily back-ordered, which is pretty unusual for factory assembled production instruments, and Darkglass hasn't even been able to keep up with the demand for the NG-2's enough to start selling the standalone preamp's themselves yet; they're actually over two months behind their original timetable.
That being said, I'd love it if Sheldon chimed in momentarily and told me I was totally wrong
MDBass called it. The Combustion bodies are routed for both pickup placements however we are wanting to give the NG-2 as little competition from the Combustion as possible so will not be offering the Darkglass option or pickup option at least for the 1st year of production.
What's the difference between the Darkglass pre and any other pre with 2 separate midrange bands? As a passive guy, I don't see the draw to that particular pre compared to another.
Not to interrupt the combustion talk going on, which might I add I will be keeping an eye out in the future for a Ferrari Red NG2

Was trying out a Z3 yesterday and whenever I engaged the mid frequency selector switch, there is a loud pop, like when you put in the cable without muting the amp or lowering the volume while connected to the bass. Is this normal? Or should I lower the volume, engage the switch and then increase the volume again?
Am keen on the bass, but not sure whether this is normal. The Z3 has two other selector switches for series/parallel modes, but they work fine.

That's not normal. Mine doesn't make any popping noise when I change any of the toggles or the pickup settings. There is a bit of a small blip when changing active to passive but it's only there in certain gain structures and only from active to passive, not the other way around.
I suspect there might be some oxidation from the selector not being used in a bit. If you go try the bass out again, just cycle the knob a good 20 times and see if that doesnt change things.
Will try again. Playing it very softly as I do to want to spoil my speaker after a few scares. The volume knob is also noisy when turned. Had it checked out by a bass tech and he says the only way is to change the entire preamp. No one sells the preamp here. Would an Aguilar, Sadowsky or Bartolini be a good replacement? Other recommendation?
Strange that the Z3 has such issues. The dealer is talking to Sheldon and team, and a replacement volume knob is on the way. But am not sure why this was not picked up. Or the issue has cropped up after some time in storage? The bass is new BTW. The pop when using the mid frequency selector is bothering me greatly as I am afraid that the speakers will spoil. While playing it yesterday at home, (dealer was nice to loan me, but I was uncomfortable and paid him with a gentleman's agreement that I can have a refund, or have the issue fixed) the bass just pop again just like that.
Going to place an order for a few sets of strings and a strap. Anyone want to piggy back since I have to ship over the border anyways?
