Funny thing, I see more good gear in churches than I do in most clubs.
If it weren't for enthusiastic volunteers and hobbyists, I suspect that some of our most respected builders (amplification as well as instruments) would be in serious trouble.
If I was a professional musician, I probably wouldn't be able to afford a Dingwall! (not with my talents, anyway)
Very true. Mine were funded by trading my labor for money for running a print/bindery shop for a small publishing company. I've never been paid for playing with a praise team and don't really care to be compensated in money for doing so.
So I got this awesome bass in and played my first worship gig with it. The band played at the local fall jamboree. Nothing but amazing tones flowed from this instrument, even the sour notes were awesome 
Of course nothing less was expected being that this bass surpasses any other jazz I've played. And being that I had one once before, except that it was pj and had aggy pre. Nothing but compliments on tone and how it cut through the mix. Looking forward to the SPJ5!

I'm really interested in buying a Dingwall, and I was looking at the Combustion, since it is as close to my price range as I can get. I was wondering if anyone could give me any insights as to why it is on their "low end"?(Not that I expect it to be poor quality)
If there was something else I should possibly spring for, I would like to know. Figured the best place to ask.

Wow, is that a full wenge neck I spy? Congrats. I would love to have a bass like that...I didn't want to steal thunder from BC's beautiful instrument, so I refrained from showing mine off again for a few days.
But yes, here is the first Super P with black hardware and non traditional tuners. It was both Sheldon's and the unanimous opinion of the rest of the shop to go with the modern tuners, and I'm glad I did. Oh and BC, love the black PG. I think that's a killer choice for that bass!!

I'm no Dingwall expert by any means, but I ordered a Combustion two months ago and awaiting delivery in November.
The Combustion basses are assembled in China, whereas the rest of the Dingwall family is completely made in Canada. Once produced overseas, the basses go back to the Dingwall factory in Canada for setup and final inspection.

Also take a look at the new NG-2 signature model, which is basically a tweaked Combustion.
I just spent 5 hours alone at my band's studio making weird noises with my SP5, a microphone and my pedalboard (now able to remotely control our old Yamaha 01v console). Guess I lost track of time... again.

I owned one for what might be a record short short amount of time (one week).
I loved it, but a special AB1 popped up for sale a couple days after I bought it, so I had to flip it quickly.
The Combustion is a fantastic bass, do not let the entry level tag fool you.
It's absolutely a no brainer, if you are lucky enough to grab a used one, you can immediately get your money back if it's not your style.
Yes, it is a full wenge neck and board. I love it. Sheldon makes them with a really nice finish that makes them super satiny soft to the touch. It is without a doubt my most favorite and best bass I have ever owned or played, tonally, playability-wise, and aesthetically. I smile broadly every time I pick it up, and I look wistfully at it every time I set it down.
Nice grab bro! I wish I could have beat you to it, but alas my cashflow is not what it would have needed to be. I am seriously thinking that I will end up with a Super J at some point in the stable. I will probably go fiver given that I have two fours already. I will probably need to buy a Super P pickup so I have the option of going Super J P/J. Now where's Ken? I need to consult with him to establish a plausible premise for supporting such a purchase. Ken has a whole slew of them in his back pocket and so I'm sure he has one to spare he can let me have.

Me? I've had to stop my serial Dingwall bass importation due to lack of investment capital, but I am always available to enable DAS behavior in others. 
BTW, is your camera broken? (still waiting to see how cool the Baltic Amber guard looks on your SP...)

Yeah, it seems that there's always something(s) drawing us away from playing and talking bass.
I think the Baltic Amber on trans-white would be a sweet looking combo!
