The 4-way switch is very well implemented but I share your feeling with 2 pickup basses. With a volume/blend setup I always end up biased 1/8-1/4 turn off center toward the neck or bridge depending on if I want a little more roundness or a little more bite to my tone. Looking at the series/parallel DPDT switch wiring, I don't see why you couldn't route the pickups through a DPDT switch before the blend pot with the understanding you'd have to turn the blend fully toward the single hot signal you'd get from the switch in series.

So many shops have a closed minded attitude toward certain modifications. I'm sure it's easier follow a, "Take it or leave It" or "You're on your own if you want to void your warranty" type of path. Me too! This is why I installed a blend pot in my bass -- except I put the blend pot BEFORE the 4-way switch:
- In parallel mode, I can do blending however I like.
- In series, it has cool utility (added roundness or bite) within a SMALL range of rotation.
[Outside of that small range, it kills the volume and tone gets muffled]
- Either pickup soloed, the blend acts as a volume control for half of its rotation.

So, it is do-able -- but it gets a little quirky and I can understand why Dingwall would not want to include it as an option.

It's good to know that I'm not the only person who prefers a blend slightly favoring one pickup or the other.
My plan, if I decide to modify my Combustion, is to have the S/P switch bypass the blend in series mode. Haven't thought it through enough to know if it's do-able, though.

Does anyone have any experience with an ABHS along with any other Afterburners? I'm very curious what your perception of the heavier weight is on the HS while playing. I'm contemplating getting a 4-string and am undecided between an HS or an ABII. I really like the idea of a heavier bass but I wouldn't want to go the HS route unless maybe it really had its own character.

The HS is very heavy, 11lbs+ from what I recall, and it's immediately apparent both in the heft of the physical bass and the sonic density of the notes.

I just finished up at a first rehearsal / audition for a friend's band. After managing to keep up with them for a couple hours they plan on poopie-canning their current bass player to make room for me. As soon as I pulled the Dingwall out of the bag, the drummer knew what he was looking at and was prepared for me to rock his socks off. Needless to say, the series setting on the pickups cut through the two guitarists and drummer like they were ice-cream cake left outside in July.

I'm beyond excited to improve a ton by playing with people who are much more technically skilled than me.
...and it's about time I learn the notes on the neck.

My yellow nasty came in Saturday. Thing is beast. Already got it tuned to C#. I've adjusted to the frets, but the pickup location is throwing me off a little. Normally for my 3 finger triplets my ring finger comes down to the body, but there's a pickup right there in the way. Playing on the bridge pickup kind of feels off since the tension is a little more taut. I'll adjust though. The tone on this thing is wicked as all hell. I have a Darkglass Tone Capsule in my Charvel but the combination of everything on this NG-2 makes it all come alive in ways my other basses can't match.

Hey guys, another option question. I asked this to Sheldon in the Dingwall forum but wanted to check here too.

If I go with a 3X, Tone Capsule and series/parallel switches is there an option for a push/pull master volume for active/passive? If so does is there a tone control when in passive mode? Or for that setup would the active/passive switch be like the NG2, when in passive mode no tone control?

I asked tech this question and was told that 3X with the Tone Capsule would come with a push/pull volume for active/passive switching but no passive tone control. Series/parallel pickup switches complete the package but don't affect the active/passive. With the Glockenclang you get the passive tone but don't get that 2nd mid band.

It's the smaller symbol version of our band logo. I may take it off later, but I'm kinda digging it for now. I cut vinyl on the side so I can just cut what I want. I wanted to cut some simple accents for it but it looks so clean by itself and with the carbon fiber print pickguard.
