I can't count myself as a "true" member of the club quite yet, but I've just put in an order for a blue NG-2. Barry says lead time is 5-6 months so it will be a long wait, but I'm sure it will be worth it!
Been a minute since I posted. Finally got word that my Ferrari Red NG-2 should be leaving Canada this week. Then I'll be able to compare it with what I have now. It will be a match of NG-2 vs Warwick GPS Streamer SSI 5er. The best all around wins Unless I just hide one from the wife and tell her the credit card is paid off LOL.

That's good sounding stuff -- but my "eureka!" moment lately was in a very different tonal direction; I finally listened to "Live at Leeds" all the way through.
It REALLY made me want to find a good grindy tone -- and I'm not sure that I can get there with my current amps...

I'm hoping that the all-tube route will get me closer to where I want to go.
I'm not sure that the Dingwall is the most natural choice for grindy distorted tones, but the Dingwall is not negotiable, so the amp has to make it work.

Are you kidding, DW not suited for grind? You must've missed Nolly's tones through Darkglass gear on Periphery's double album Juggernaut! Seriously, I think of my DW as a a blank slate; crisp, clear, accurate tone just perfect for whatever you plan on plugging into. Mine sounds seriously delightful plugged into my pedalboard, especially my DIY Big Muff.
I prefer the regular (taller/slimmer) 12/6.
Having the mid driver that few inches higher pays off in the tight/cramped playing situations I often find myself in.
Either way, a 12/6 with an Alpha mid is great bang for the buck among the fEARfuls.
No, I've heard it; Nolly's tone is a more processed, raspy sounding grind than what I'm looking for. I didn't state my opinion very intelligibly.
What I have noticed that I like distorted tones better with my bass in passive mode -- so I'm wondering if impedance loading isn't part of the overall recipe that I like.
And I've never really found a stomp box, hybrid amp, etc., that gave me that tone -- but laying heavy-handed into an all-tube amp gets me there in a very cool way.
Going back to earlier in the thread -- one of the cooler manifestations of that tone was playing my VB-2 into (2) 4x10 cabs and an 810.
Clean channel and playing LOUD; when the amp got hot it started giving up some very, very tasty touch-sensitive distortion.

I'll have to take a gander at it when I get my Dingwall (Thursday!), but I get 99% of the way to the Live at Leeds tone with my Spector Euro 5 and my Axe-Fx II. And, I don't need stupid loud volume / a cranked tube amp to get there. If anything, I expect the Dingwall to do even better.

Fair; there are a few OD pedals I've wanted to try for the pushed tube amp sound - Barbershop and Blueberry specifically.
The VB2 does drive really nicely. I should really play through mine more, but it's so stupid loud even turned down low through my 215. I've got to try cranking the gain and using the master volume to adjust to a non-ear splitting level.

Hey folks!
I'm wondering if anyone who has a V4 Combustion has had to change batteries yet, or if anyone has an approximate lifespan?
I can't tell if it's time to change the strings, the batteries, or if I finally have too many pedals daisy chained together?

FWIW, my Dingwall through my old Sunn 200s rig is absolutely outstanding. I don't quite push it into the full gnarly overdrive mode out of respect for the D140's and the low string but the Dingwall's definition sounds mighty fine when blurred a bit through a good tube amp and quality drivers.
