Thanks! I've been a basement hero for the past few years and somehow my gear collection has progressed a bunch faster than my playing skills. About time I joined some like minded people to make noise together!
Well, I bought that Combustion V4 that was for sale right here on TB. I just sent the payment over. Hopefully, with any luck, I'll have it in time for rehearsal this Friday with my 2nd project, and then recording on the 25th with my main project.
Anyone else here running their Dingwalls into an Axe-Fx II? That's my main rig... it should end up pretty awesome.

I had a BFR Sterling HS 5 and a EBMM Stingray HS5. Very nice basses. After I played @groovaholic 's AB1.5, I pretty much was disgusted by my basses. Knew I needed a dingwall. With my experience with the AB1's and the V4 Combustion, I will say you wont be disappointed.
I think between my V4 Combustion, the ABII that used to reside at my local guitar store, and the ABI that I tried for a few minutes, the only reason to be disappointed is that I can't afford one in every model and every color.
Funny enough, I don't even own that BFR anymore. It was a Bongo 5 HH. Very sweet bass. I still like my Bongos (presently own two others - a 6 HS and a fretless 5 HSp)... they just fall a bit on their face with down tuning, unless you go with massive strings. I'm super excited for the Combustion. Every sound clip I heard of them was awesome... though a lot had that amazing B7K in front too.
One hard part, and part of the reason it took me so long to bite on the V4 was that I couldn't find very much information on what the differences were on the new versus the older Combustion. The Dingwall site had nothing, and even TB didn't have a lot. The seller filled me in, and I also was able to find an old Combustion for sale that had details of what it was, so I could compare the two that way.
One hard part, and part of the reason it took me so long to bite on the V4 was that I couldn't find very much information on what the differences were on the new versus the older Combustion. Alright Dingwallians, it looks like in the fall I've got what it takes to pick up either,
A) used Super P4 to have refinished in Capri Orange
Or
B) a sweet amp setup (thinking fearless 1 or 215, Peavey IPR and ???? Preamp)
The budget would be topping out around $2500, absolute max.
I like my amp(s) but I feel like my DW deserves the best. A fearless 15 with a great pre/ power amp would render obsolete my TC BG250 and my Peavey VB2 + 215 stack
That said, a Super P is basically the only other bass I need, and would be very, very happy with.

As I mentioned, I'm running an Axe-Fx II. When I need a poweramp and cab (with my main band, never as we're fully IEM, no on stage gear for anyone. Second band is more typical) I use a QSC poweramp with an AudioKinesis TC 118 cab. I strongly recommend checking out Duke's cabs if you're looking at fEarful types. In my opinion, Duke's cabs are a better execution on that cab ideology.
Either case, that's a hard choice in front of you. Looking at your present gear, I would personally be going with a new amp/cab first and foremost. But that's me

I used to have a VB-2 and I miss it; I'd recommend that you try it with someone else's fEarful before you kiss it goodbye.
Another thumbs up for AudioKinesis. Duke's super-smooth response and wide dispersion really lets Dingwalls shine, whether you go with his "recording monitor" vibe (Thunderchild), or his "conventional bass cab" voicing (Hathor).
Another benefit, is that AudioKinesis cabs are pretty much amp-agnostic. They sound great with a wide variety of front ends, whether SS, hybrid or all-tube.
His smaller cabs are perfectly rated to compliment 500w heads, and his high output models will handle kilowatt class heads quite comfortably. Efficiency is just a hair lower than conventional cabs, and every model punches way above its weight class.
Driven with enough power, a 35-40lb AK compact cab will happily compete with a typical 4x10...

I think Jacob has at least been in the room with it? I can't remember these days. I know our other local Dingwall player is also using one of Dave's cabs as well. I tried to set up a time to get everyone together in the room back in the spring, but timing wasn't good. I'm happy to re-offer to meet up either singly or in a group in my rehearsal room.
Also, Wednesday night's gig will be outdoors at the Dino BBQ, it's free and early (6-9pm). I'll be running my full rig (IPR2-3000DSP), Monique, cabs as usual.
I hate to use the word 'disgusted' for how I feel about my old basses... but I think I know how you feel. I told my friend that all my other basses were garbage. He looked a little surprised and started laughing. I was serious, though.
I hear you a little bit, pravus. I don't truly see myself saying anything of the sort about my current basses. I can see how they'll see less play time, and the Bongo 6 might even get sold (for a Dingwall 6, if they ever release a Combustion 6)... but the fretless Bongo is staying with me, along with my Spector and EBMM Sterling. It'll be interesting to see how much play time the other basses get after I receive my Dingwall... but even if they sit idle, they have sentimental value for me, with quite a few memories tied up in each.

I have heard Bill's rig, and it is mighty impressive. We definitely should do a get together; my wife will be away for a month starting the end of July, so I'll have lots of time to plan something.
Part of the dilemma is that we will most likely be going overseas for a year for my wife's dissertation research, so a second Dingwall makes a little more sense than an amp I'll only use for a year and then put into storage for a year - moving is already gonna be a beast.

I wish my parallel fret stuff wasn't sentimental, otherwise I'd sell it all but the ABZ when we move.
Apples/oranges, Dingwalls/everything else... To me, Dingwall basses are in a class of their own.

I find it interesting that others felt this same tangible difference. I feel like Dingwall is a step forward in bass evolution so I agree with it being in its own class. It would be very difficult to be satisfied with anything else now.
Some nice redwood taking shape in the shop!
