The demo I recorded on a couple months ago is finally available, Happily Ever Never | Julia Wolfe

I used my ABZ6, into an Avalon U5, minimal EQ in the mixing process.

The 5 tracks were recorded in 2 hours, mixed/ fixed/ mastered in 4, split the session over three days.

I'm excited to be able to share great pop music. And now I've got pro-recorded tracks to add to my résumé.

I too found that I preferred the standard configuration.

Your bass should be ready for the 'reverse' configuration. Here's a pic of my 2013 SP4 'MacGyvered' to play in reverse w/o pickguard:

I just traced the 'guard on cardboard to make a mount for the controls. The experiment went well - I discovered that I prefer the standard configuration on my SP4.

FWIW, my Dingwall through my old Sunn 200s rig [with] D140's.

To be fair, I think a Harmony or Jay Turser bass would sound great through THAT rig!

I'd build a fEarful and get the Dingwall.

Your amp gets a whole new lease on life with a fEarful.

As always, I tout the 12/6 cube with the alpha 6 mid as the biggest bang for the buck.

I'd love to build a fEarful, but my finances dictate that I can't afford a purchase until after summer, meaning when classes have started. This is my final year for my undergrad, so I've really got to budget my outside-of-class time.

Funny thing though...it's a pretty honest sounding rig with a fairly "fixed" eq..not much of a turd polisher.

I had Sheldon put one on my Afterburner 4 (it was the prototype, actually), but I did not want/need one on my 5-string Z3. I love the D-tuner option on the 4-string.

Just call me a little on the uptake. My B (and to some extent E) strings on the SJ5 and SPJ5 seem louder/more powerfull than the other strings. I never thougt to lower the PU's. DOH! May try tonight.

I should have my Weber AB200 re-wired and reassembled by then...
I'm hoping that the all-tube route will get me closer to where I want to go.

I'm not sure that the Dingwall is the most natural choice for grindy distorted tones, but the Dingwall is not negotiable, so the amp has to make it work.

Wouldn't a passive super series with that shorter scale be close to what you're thinking? My only question would be the Dingwall pickups which tend to be wider sounding than most 'traditional' basses.

hehe no no.. Felipe said he'd check up on my bass when he'd stop by the shop, he knows I'm really excited about it! The pictures where a bonus!

He can play with it as much he wants, either there, or when he stops in Montreal
