Dingwall Owners Club

Is there anyone here Photoshop or otherwise photo manipulation savvy who is willing to help me? I've scoured the internet and haven't found a photo of a Dingwall similar to the one I'm having built. Maybe if I had one, it would help ease the wait, maybe not....

So, I don't know anything about your band. I'm not sure if you're an original or even full time member. I'm not sure whether I like your stuff cause I haven't checked it out (before anyone go making me out to be callous, it's likely he would say the exact same thing about my band).

What I do know, however, is that your band's post on Tool's tour announcement got 186 likes, and they mention an opening act.

Long story short, are you guys opening for tool? Cause if so, holy shite, my man.

Either way, congrats on the new album. I'll check it out soon.

Funny you mention that...it was actually our friends in With Our Arms to the Sun who opened for them recently, but Danny and Adam are regulars in the scene around here, especially with Volto...we're actually playing a show with them next month :thumbsup:

So MD, you played the ABI XXX on Elixir On Mute, and the SJ4XXX on Socionic? I'd love to here your impressions on them, how they differ in sound and feel, and why you choose to play each and when.

I need to get your Cd since you got the SJ4XXX, also, is there a CD with the ABI XXX? Maybe you could let us know which bass is on what tracks?

Also, have you had a chance to try the P tone PUP in that bad boy yet?

I changed my Super P/j 5 to E-C. I just stole the C string out of a six string long scale set. I buy single C strings from bassstringsonline.com, to complete any sets that don't offer high C strings. I did that for using five string sets on the six string, too.

Most C strings won't have any taper, so as long as they are long enough, and balance with the other strings, it's fine. D'Adarrio xl and DR sunbeams are my usual pick for C's.

I would just shift a five string set over and try with a single C.

At the nut, I have the tiniest rattle on the open D string. Not a deal breaker. A little intonation work at the initial set up and everything is fine. I raised the pickups a tad as well.

BSO.com has quite a few long scale sets for six strings, and you can buy individual strings for many sets. Since the low B is the big money, it's worth it. C strings are usually under $5. They have Dingwall sets as well. You'll have a couple extra B's for the switch back to standard.

Payson has a number of nickel round sets for Dingwalls. I really liked the reduced core with a D'Adarrio xl C.

It's super fun to have the higher voice for chords and solo lines. I don't really miss the low B, and it's much easier to mute the five string. I still miss that AB 1 six string, but I'm really digging the Super PJ strung this way. I should have done it years ago!

I figure I'll go back and forth as the mood strikes, since I've managed to get by without doing any work on the nut.

Sure brother! Despite having the same pickup setups, the tone of each bass is remarkably different.

I was playing the AB fingerstyle, as well as slapping and tapping in a few sections, with just a touch of dynamic drive; I've never heard a bass sits more articulately in a mix than the AB, it's actually a little startling at first.

The instrument demands to be played with more precision than any other bass I've had my hands on, including an ABZ and NG-2, while simultaneously making more complex techniques like slapping and tapping easier and more articulate; the FOH engineer specifically came up to me after to show to mention that they hadn't done anything whatsoever to the signal I sent them and it was "perfect" in the mix.

I played the SJ with a pick and considerably more drive; Socionic's set is still quite dynamic, but in the heavier sections I play very aggressively. The SJ has all of the tonal qualities that I love about Fender style instruments, but with a much thicker and clearer voice.

I choose the AB for Elixir's set primarily because extended range (I use the Low B and C# quite a lot in that set); I'd previously tuned the SJ to BEAD with some heavy strings for one of the Elixir sets, and the AB plays easier and is more articulate.

I choose the SJ because at moment I actually prefer it for pickstyle, though I only had the AB in time for one rehearsal to work on tones and pickup/preamp settings, and because Socionic's set is entirely based on various 4 string tunings (EADG, DADG, CADG & BABG).

I have the P Tone in both basses :thumbsup:

No tracks recorded with the AB yet, it was only delivered two weeks ago, but the entire Socionic album is the SJ using various pickups settings, aside from "Unity" which was tracked with my Spector Forte SS.

Excellent summation of the Super series. :D I'll say it again, I think that Leo would have been impressed with Sheldon's take on his iconic designs.
