Yes. It's a mathematical symbol that represents the various orders (cardinalities) of infinity. The real numbers, for example (negative infinity to positive infinity) are known as Aleph-Null. It is the smallest order of infinity.

Since the Z3, AB, and Super J all use the same pickups now, is there really much difference in passive tones, or is it just an ergonomic thing? I guess the Super J would sound different based on the shorter scale. Would a Z3 (Darkglass) and 3x Super J (Glock) pretty much cover all the Dingwall sounds?

My AB and SJ sound entirely different when set passive, even with identical pickups and switch/rotary settings.

My problem with SF pickups (if you want to call this a problem) is they are so hot I have a hard time taming the snarl (Z2 configuration), glock pre.

Even passive, I can't tame these, amp master in on 2, selector switch on both, parallel, and volume at 7/8 and it still growls at the slightest provocation.

I know, good problem to have, but my 3 other DW I can set and forget, 2 shows with this one and I'm still applying the brakes all night.

I've got FD-3 MachII 4L in my Voodoo/Zebra; and with the preamp set flat (center detent on the treble, bass set to no boost) the tone and volume between the active/passive is completely the same. It only changes when you start boosting. But then I've got a couple things going on...Aguilar OBP-1 running at 18v with Sheldon's now discontinued in-house built hybrid treble tone circuit/control

Yeah, the Aguilar and the Glock preamps are both very uncolored and without boost when set flat, the Tone Capsule on the other hand has both added color and boost in the flat setting compared to passive.

I was really comparing the differences in passive tone between the SJ and AB models though :thumbsup:

And seeing as the SF pickups are now phased out...it would appear I'm on the hunt for a used Z series to round out the collection ;)

In the email I received Sheldon said that they are working on a new FD3 version with the same shape. I just imagine it's economical for them to centralize on this design since it works so well and is offered in everything.

Agree. My PA is that generation. It sounds better than any other (newer) PA I've played. Not that I've played lots of PA's. Lol. The Aguilar pre is a LOT hotter than the Glock. A little goes a long way. No passive treble cut. Love all the individual series/parallel switches. (Each pup). In the end, you'de have to play it to see if it has 'that' magic. (For you) price is about right. Maybe a tad high, imo.

What year is your PA from? Didn't Sheldon change the pickups at some point so the PA ones were unique?

Also, care to post a pic of yours? =)

The one at BC has been there for YEARS. I played it, and was not impressed. Which surprised me. I wanted to love it. It is gorgeous. Maybe just an off day.

I think I did better. I am lucky enough to own the PA made for Jeff Martens-Koop, who worked at the shop. July 2006. It is an amazing bass. So versatile, sustain for days. I still gasp a bit every time I open the case.
