I keep thinking about a bass with a more powerful B string. I just never felt any bass I ever played had a "B" string that sounded like the other strings with the same impact.

I have looked at some 35" scale basses. Lakeland is one I have looked at. They seem like very nice basses.

A Dingwall Combustion V4 came up here on the classifieds for $1325. Dingewall Combustion Tburst | Reverb
But when I was thinking about it, it was gone.

I noticed that BassCentral.com has many Dingwalls listed for sale, but they are all sold. I guess those are just to look at and they take orders 6-7 months out. Their prices shown on the site are $1270 for their cheapest Combustion.

Found one of Reverb.com that is almost what I want, except I would like a white pickguard. $1699

I hear that the newer Combustion's are very good basses and have a little narrower string spacing. I am used to Ibanez 5 string spacings so this seems like what I would like. I had an old Precision 5 string that was too wide and hurt my hand and had to get rid of it.

Wondering how the prices above are in today's US market for Dingwalls?

This sounds exactly like how I was intending one of my builds to be - please post photos when you can!!

The P tone should come with a schematic drawing. The shop can email you a drawing if all else fails.

If I recall, the stock neck pickup is a four lead, and the P is two wires. I think the swap took about half an hour, and it was pretty simple.

I had already rewired the neck pup in series by joining two of the leads together, (an easy move towards the P tone sound) so I just clipped the remains two leads, leaving enough to see where the P tone leads needed to go, and soldered.

Okay, the truth is, my recollections are hazy, but I'm real happy with the results. I installed one split P pup in my Super J, and one in my AB-1.

You'll know if it's working right. You should have 1 solo P (very mid forward aggressive P), 2 both in series, P on steroids, 3 a very cool parallel, and last the bridge solo.

The PUP did not come with a diagram per se. It has a sticker that indicates Red+ Black- for the ADG side and Green+ and White- for the BE side. Black and Green are tied together, putting the two halfs in series. Red and White are available for connection to the preamp. There is also a clear line that I assume is a neutral?

I assume that I just need to connect the Red, White and Clear leads to the same place as those same colored leads are coupled now with the current PUP. I assume the only difference will be that the Black and Green of the current PUP are also coupled to the same place as the White and Red are respectively because that PUP is connected in parallel.

I guess I will see soon!

Got word last night that after a required week long wait 'at the border' my wire transfer has finally gone though, so theoretically, I'll have this by sometime tomorrow. : ) I'm excited to see what shows up...I know it's a well used, well gig-worn bass. I didn't ask for detailed pictures, fully trusting the seller (you may remember the matching 6 string Z3s that Sheldon produced recently...I'm pretty sure they'll keep the seller happy for many years to come). Here's another one of the few pictures I have of the the Voodoo Prima:

Once it arrives, you can expect I'll be taking a bunch of other pictures...Its just in my nature. I'm hoping that I can play this on Friday's gig, if not, I've got another a few days after.

I'm finally on break, though it seems I'm getting a cold right now. Maybe sometime next week? I can bring my ABZ6, VB-2,and board and we can rumble all of Syracuse to the ground.

Sounds good to me. We do Monday night rehearsal, and are down at the Funk on Thursday, but other than that, I'm around and about.

Congratulations!!! Sheldon's take on the classic precision bass (like his other instruments) is so good, it's not even fair to compare it to any mono-scaled instrument.

Definitely! I can bring my Combustion and I just jumped on an open box Minimega from Sweetwater that I should have in the next couple days...

I've fallen behind on this thread and had no idea you were getting a new Dingwall @BurningSkies, very nice!! I'll skim back for details :cool:

Awesome. Extra interest in the mM. Really want to check it out both with Greenboy cabs as well as some undersized cabs (like my old 1212 which while loud was low-shy).

Yep. This was a random happenstance. It came up at the same moment that I happened to be in a position to buy. I've been thinking and pondering for a while about having a second Voodoo around because there are some times where I think about what would happen if mine got stolen or seriously damaged, etc. and I literally don't have another gigging bass. I had touched base with @CL400Peavey about his beautiful red voodoo, but this very early Voodoo Prima came up, and it's hard to turn down what I'd sort of consider a 'historic' instrument. I also know it's a 'player' as it has over 1000 gigs on it. It just felt right. I know the seller is really sad to let it go, but I've made the promise that if I ever decide it's not the bass for me, I'll sell it back to him.

All you Dingwall guys and your lovely boutique cabs.... I keep wanting a Greenboy, but being that I'm not gigging right now and the uncertainty of where my wife and I will end up next year, I don't want to build/ buy something that's gonna only be used at home and then go into storage for a year.

Cool. Totally welcome to join. I'd like to check out the 700 in comparison to my Mo/IPR setup as well as your other stuff. I also have a Kern which is a nice counterpoint/comparison tube preamp to the Monique. @Noylin has some Genz ampage as well.

And they're not for everyone either. There are also some really great production cabs and amp out there. I played for what, 3 decades before touching anything that was more exotic than a Fender and a GK, Ampeg, Hartke.

We may have to find a bigger room. ;) We'll figure it out. I also know a few others in the area who might be interested as well as at least one Dingwall player out in Rochester who I don't think is on TB.

Hey @nervous , where are people going to see music in Utica these days? Still Lukin's on Varick?
