That is exactly what I'm looking to add to my ABZ. I really love the bass, but I want to nudge it slightly from the more modern to the more old school. Sounds like it should do that nicely. Now I just need to get it installed!

I am ordering an ABZ with the Darkglass as I think it enables a distinct, what to call it, perhaps "old school Modern" sound. I love being able to play around with the mids.

Same for me. 9.5 lbs is my cutoff, but even then I would like to be closer to 8 lbs. I have sold basses in the 10 lb + range just based on weight alone. It really needs to be comfortable on my shoulder. Weight is always a consideration when I choose any equipment, although the bass is of paramount importance.

One thing about all my Dingwalls are that they balance so well, which is a feature that you might not consider important until you experience it and then go back to a neck heavy bass.

I am not convinced that heavier sounds better. I think it does impact the feel though.

I think it does impact, but I agree with you that I don't think it sounds "better" as "better" is always in the eyes of the beholder, and really with choice of pre, we can get basically any sound we want.

Bebass and others, thanks for feedback. I am an old guy too and ligh/balances is what makes the AB's so awesome. Maybe an AB II with a dark glass setup?

I am seriously looking at such a setup. Woodiness with serious tone shaping. I guess if I were playing jazz I may go with the Glockenklang for a woody clean and airy sound.

Since the 3x configuration continues to pick up steam, I hope Sheldon will be able to carve out some time (post NAMM of course) to source or develop a 5 or 6 position rotary to better take advantage of the potential tones available. This no longer looks like a fad, and would further enhance his position as an innovator in the bass world. I, of course, have my own selfish reasons for asking, but still, wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to solo each PUP, with a couple of combinations also available?

I think a 5 position rotary with the option of soloing the middle pickup would be excellent. With the bank of 3 series/parallel switches for each pickup there are a lot of different tones on tap. Another way to approach this might be to set the 4-way selector up as if the bass only had two pickups, then make one of the pots a push/pull with DPDT to select either neck or middle as the front pickup to feed that 4-way selector. This would provide series, parallel, or solo for both neck and middle pickups with the bridge.

I do not but I can speculate about the pres. Since these pres have a high and clean highband, I would think the 3 band would give quite a bit more possibility of control and should allow a more mid-forward with toned down highs (as compared to the two band) as well as super airey without losing the mids, should the need arise. Maybe someone with actual experience with the ABII will chime in.

I like that idea, I doubt I would ever solo the bridge PUP anyway but you never know, especially since I spec'd 3 P PUPS so the bridge soloed might be worthwhile. Sheldon has said a 5 rotary will fit, but a rotary 6 might have space issues.

I want to see your Dingwall Super P bass sometimes, I bet it is nice! If you ever get a chance to come to Springfield the coffee pot is on. I'll even brew the organic Guatemalan coffee if you bring that P-bass with you .

If I get around to making the trip, I'd have to dust off the gig bags and bring all three.

I have never played a bass with an Aguilar preamp on board. I've only used Bartolini, John East, and Glockenklang. Love the Glocks in my Super J's!

Sure, all 3 would be great to see!
I like the looks of the Darkglass TC pres in the Dingwall but I bet the Glockenklang is supper clean and toneful. I haven't tried the Aguilars but I am sure they are nice and have heard good things about the OBP-3.

I do the same with my ABZ for the same reason. It gives you the means to take those series enhanced mids down just a bit. Shore does!

Oh, and it is good for the opposite (i.e. Boost the mids just a bit) when in the parallel position.

I use the bridge to mix with and add bite but don't solo it either. The middle pickup in series, however, is definitely worth soloing. I equipped an NG2 with series/parallel switching for both pickups and my two favorite settings were both individual pickups in parallel setting but put in series (stock setting with nice focus) and neck pickup in series and soloed for a fat aggressive tone. Since the NG-2 neck is like the middle pickup on a 3X, a P-tone neck and FD3 mid pickup would both sound good but different when soloed and have a fatter sound than the bridge pickup.

Since I have a used Dingwall on order and it is my first one, I have been spending a lot of time reading on the Dingwall site. I haven't been approved to post on the forum yet.

I wonder in the big table of comparisons that the NG2 isn't there? Seems like when I was there a month or so ago it was?

Does anybody know if a Combustion will fit in a Gruv Gear GigBlade case? I have the internal dimensions for the GigBlade. I don't have my bass yet and can't find external dimensions on the Dingwall site.

It's pretty similar to Fender sized and shaped, enough so that anything that fits a Fender will fit a Combustion. By that I mean, if it fits a J and/or a P, it'll fit.
