Does anyone have or know of an ABI6 or ABZ6 with a maple board for sale? Blocks would be a huge plus but I know that's a tall order. I'd consider any ABI or ABZ6, but maple would be ideal.

More Voodoo Prima work done today. Got back in and re-did a couple things:
First off, needed to replace the broken original battery clip. Oddly, I ordered two cheap ones last week on Amazon completely blind, and they came with the exact same mounting screw layout...so it was a completely simple direct replacement.
Next up, I decided that the blend pot I had been using was both crappy and wired in reverse. I replaced it with a Bourns blend MN taper. Also worked on my detail soldering work.
While I was at it, might as well add a second 9v to run the preamp at 18v for more headroom, right? That's the same setup as the Rastaburst has, so I know that it works solidly and makes batteries last longer between changes. I realized that the second 9V fits perfectly behind the tone knob if the lugs are spun out of the way. I also decided to move the OBP to the bottom of the control layout it just made more sense to me there. Also rather than snipping wires short, I bundled them and organized with some heat shrink. You never know when you need to move things around...
And finally, whole it doesn't really need it, a piece of foam as a spacer. I added another thin one on top of the battery too, even though it doesn't even wiggle or rattle as is. That way it's completely sandwiched in place.
Back and tested...everything's solid and working.

So I just broke the A string on my AB1 (Dingwall Stainless Steels) in a rehearsal today. The strings were still on the fresh side; about a month and a half on the bass. I don't use a very aggressive technique - moderate attack and not a lot of slapping/popping. This sounds too short a lifespan for a string so I'm thinking it may have just been defective. Is this normal for Dingwall strings?

I've only broken one string and that was while changing strings and at least a couple years ago. And I'm not shy about leaning on the SJ when the material requires it.

Yeah that seems weird, it's not like those saddle screws generally get burrs or sharp edges.
Hmm. Never broke a Dingwall string. Ever. Change strings rarely. 1 - 5 yrs per. Maybe longer.
Is your Super J olympic white in greenish light? Finish aside, these are killer basses! I've been using Dunlop SS rounds on my SJ's and SP.
Abnormal. I haven't broken a string since the seventies, and it was probably a Dean Markley.

Yep. I've been using Sheldon's strings for over 10 years both steel and nickel and have never broken one with playing I even use the strings for long periods of time. I buy 3 sets of strings every year and a half..
Is your Super J olympic white in greenish light? Finish aside, these are killer basses! I've been using Dunlop SS rounds on my SJ's and SP.
I think they call it vintage white. It's like a light creamy colour. The Baltic Amber pickguard is a bit different to the usual tort.
Here's how my NG-2 sounded on Wednesday night. I am really enjoying the honeymoon with this bass!

Thanks guys, just wanted to make sure. It for sure seemed abnormal to me, and I really loved the sound/feel of the Dingwall Stainless strings. I'll likely grab more in the future, but for now I have a fresh set of Payson Stainless strings installed.
Does anyone know of a detailed Combustion version 'guide'. Something that shows the versions and their respective specs, pickups, electronics, features, changes, colors, etc.?

Yeah, saw that and it's the first place that I went. That's a good reference across current models but I am looking for a similar chart across just the Combustion series history.
This is always par for the course. Sheldon incorporates new features or redesigns elements more regularly than the website receives updates. I hope he is taking good notes along the way so that when the "History of Dingwall Instruments" is written and published, it will be comprehensive. I'm officially placing myself on the pre-order list. It'll be worth the purchase price just for the pictures!
