I know, right? I'm working with my dealer on the spec for my ABZ now. He's going to check with Sheldon on Monday if I can get the Voodoo Switch-Blade pickup selector. If so, this will be the build:
ABZ 6 string, Greenburst, 3x, P-tone in neck, Voodoo Switch-Blade selector, no dots/inlays on the face.

Someone should market a non-reverse T-bird.

I've never owned a T-bird, but I bought two Firebird skinny-string guitars in the late 60s.
One was the typical "reverse", the other was a non-reverse.
I sold the "reverse" shortly after buying it. I still have the non-reverse. More ergonomic and better looking in my (not so) humble opinion.

so just about 100% of the time I run my Combustion on the neck pickup solo. I'm not a fan of that jazz bridge sound - tonally I'm much more a P guy - and I can't seem to get both pickups to work, in series or parallel. Cutting bass and treble while boosting mids on the preamp improves the tone, but the neck solo just sounds better to me.

Do I have options for replacing the bridge pickup with something that would be more to my liking? I'd love to have more tonal versatility from the bass, but I'm not familiar with what's available with Dingwall pickups

My understanding is that the neck pickup will fit in the center position, but the bridge pickup can't be moved up. Given my preferences I don't expect I'd like it, but I'm still going to experiment with moving the neck pickup back just because I'm curious enough. I don't really want to mess with the neck pickup though, since that's how I use the bass (and love it)

been loving the Payson GW Flats on the Combustion by the way, they are starting to break in nicely after a month or two. While I like the tension and feel of the TI flats I had on the bass previously, the Paysons are much better balanced and even tonally, no surprise. The B string is far better too than that giant TI B. Nothing beats the feel and tension of the Dingwall Stainless for me, they make the bass play like butter, but tonally, the Paysons are my favorite by far.

If yours is a V4 combustion, it takes basically *nothing* to move the pickup. Pull the pickguard, unscrew it, shuffle it backwards, re-screw it into place and play. If you like it in that position, you'll need a new pickguard. Definitely experiment with it and see if that suits you.

You can also drop in a P-tone pickup, which is even more "P bass like" than the stock ones:

Drats, the voodoo switch blade is no longer an option, on any model.

I have two questions for the smarter folks:
1) How is the 4 way rotary wired up in 3x pickup models? (Edit: Looks like this is answered in this post: Dingwall Owners Club Part 7)
2) The "Series/Parallel" switch option - are those S/P only, or are they a 3 way switch with "off" on the third?

Probably going to place my order in the next week or so

Even better for the fact that no one can tell that that picture is taken with the bass on top of an original icon of mid-century design...my 1950's original state Heywood Wakefield wishbone table with original wheat finish. I like good design in everything.

I really needed to stay off of the Dingwall website. But, now, it looks like I may be placing an order in the next week, two tops. Hopefully it'll still be ~9 months wait at that point. I'm going to just get the absolute minimum to get in line, then will flush out the details quickly after that. I just have so many questions on what I can/cannot do haha.

These are binary switches for each pickup. Each one toggles the pickup between either being wired in series or parallel since it is wound for both. If you don't get the switches, the pickups will be wired in a fixed configuration that can either be set at order to your spec or is preset from the factory in a default configuration from my understanding. It can be changed by re-soldering some of the connections. If you get the switches, no re-soldering is needed and you can configure the pickups any way you like. My ABZ has the switches as well as all my future orders. My AB-II doesn't have switches and sounds terrific but I kinda want to add some switches. I like to fiddle with things, though.

It is for the store and already spoken for, I am going for a Canadian ABII personally, although I wouldn't mind playing a NG2. Even my wife, who initially didn't say much about the yellow, said it grew on a person, then she said,"Because it is"...then she paused searching for the right word, then said "Classy".

Canada's largest music chain was having an "inventory blow out" sale a few weeks ago and my wife told me to check out a few locations and if there were any deals on something I really wanted to pick it up, but just to call her first, especially if it was pricey...

I played my first Combustion during one of those visits and of course a phone call ensued...

ME: "Hey Love, I think I found 'the one'!"
HER: "How much is it?"
ME: "$1,350"
HER: "Is it on sale?"
ME: "I don't think so, but I've never seen one of these basses this cheap before."
HER: "Well if it is on sale you can get it, but otherwise, can you please wait until we can afford it? Right now's a bad time."
ME: While thinking to myself, 'why'd you tell me to come here in the first place?', said to her, "Okay, let me ask."
ME (to store employee): "Is this Dingwall on sale?"
EMPLOYEE: "No, Dingwall's are flying off our the shelves. We never really put them on sale."
ME (to wife): "No, it's not on sale... I'll just have to save up for it."
HER: "Great. Thanks for checking and calling me first!"
ME: thinking to myself, 'why'd you tell me to come here in the first place?'

My wife is all nice and encouraging at the WORST times... At least it finally made up my mind as to what bass I will get, when I can afford to get one!
