Pretty much exact thing I'm rolling around in my head. I'm leaning towards passive, but with S/P switches.

You know, I have a Glockenlang 3 band in my ABZ. It is virtually the same (I cannot hear a difference) flat versus passive. So I think it's nice to have if the added expense is not a deal breaker. I never use it, but I may once my band finally gets out gigging.
I use the one in my blue AB "1.5" (was passive, someone added a glock 2 band along the lines). I don't miss it a whole lot in the red passive AB 1. It'd be nice to have, but $450 is a lot to bite off.
Good feedback, thanks. I have an AB 1 passive that I love and an ab2 that I love equally with 2 band glock. I run the ab2 passive as dingwalls are so even regarding string tension and playability. Good to see I'm not alone, and I'm not hearing things just in MY head.
I really enjoy the sweet highs that the glocks deliver. I almost always run my Super J's in active mode with no boost or cut. The Super P don't need no pre!

I would suggest pre wth switches. Darkglass if you like aggressive, Glockenklang if you want just super clean.

That bass is yours now. Every mark tells a story.
This makes me feel even better about my choice to include it. The fact you feel the bass sounds amazing without even having to engage the preamp is a true testament to the natural design

I think, just due to budget, I'll have to skip the preamp. I did ask if they would be open to routing the battery door and such so I can drop one in later. Once I have an answer to that, I'll be getting in line. Hopefully tomorrow

I am such a Darkglass fan. I am getting the Darkglass in a ABZ but decided to go the Glockenklang route for the ABII. I am even putting the Darkglass in my other bass.So if I suggested the idea of a Super P, with a Darkglass preamp in it, this would be sacrilegious?

I have a Combustion v4 and the guy I bought it from told me he upgraded the pickups to the "Canadian ones" instead of the ones that came in it. Seems like he said $350 upgrade.
I pulled them both out tonight to have a look at the back. Not sure what it tells me. I expected the pickups to say: FD-3N if they were bone stock.
Mine say:
FD-3 4L (SS) B (bridge)
FD-3 4L (SS) N (neck)
Looking at the Dingwall sales site I see a number that looks similar:
Under the cover, they look offset like P-bass pickups. Is that what these are?

I really like the center setting on the 4 way that is loudest. I assume that is series? Which setting would make it sound most like P-bass? Rolled to Neck Pickup only? I never had a P-bass. Also, mine are in the NG-2 position even though mine isn't an NG-2. Wonder if that defeats the P-Tone sound that seems like it would be closer to the neck?
Yeah the louder center setting is series. In theory, the neck pup soloed would be the closest to a p bass, assuming it is wired in series. Do the combustion have passive mode? If so, passive neck only would be closest to a p bass. Then again, you're playing a 37" monster so take it with a grain of salt!
Cool. I will play with it. The Combustion's do have a passive active switch. All my other basses are active and that is what I am used to, so I guess I gravitated to that. Will play with that setting and see how it sounds.
