Evening All, I'm told my new Dingwall is now going through customs at the moment so it won't be far away, so I thought in the interim I'd share my first:

Anyways, that might mean that the upgrade that the person did on that v4 Combustion was moving from Alnico to Neodymium. There's a kit you can buy on the Dingwall site. That also means you have about as modern a Dingwall sound as possible. The only thing newer is in Sheldon's workshop being perfected me thinks.

So, these new pickups being the 4 Lead, and my Combustion having the normal number of knobs and switches, someone had to make the choice which way to hook them up at the time it was wired? Right?

So, I have a 4-way that selects bridge pickup, both parallel, both series, neck pickup? But there is no way to switch the 4-L wiring without adding more switches?

When others do a similar mod, how is this usually handled?

Either add series/parallel switches, or just wire the pickup coils in series or parallel, and if you want to change it, re-wire it. Note: the pickup coil wiring is different than the pickup selector wiring. Pickup coils can be in series, but the pickups can be in series or parallel in addition to that.

The way the pickups are soldered to the rotary selector determines both how they are wired (series/parallel) as well as which pickups go to which position. Sheldon sent the following images to me recently so I hope he doesn't mind me reposting them here:

There's an older and newer PCB design there. Here's the control cavity in my AB-II:

Based on the diagrams, I should have my neck pickup in parallel and the bridge in series. With all the wires it gets a little hard to tell. You can also see how all the connections are spread across the different fins of the selector. I'm sure you could re-arrange the connections for a different configuration with a little thought and testing.

The one it came with! It was ordered by the Bass Centre in Melbourne for stock I believe, so I hijacked it before it went on sale. Here's the description I was given, "its an Afterburner 1 with upgrades of flame maple top, 24 fret full wenge neck and fretboard, 3x pickup configuration, Glockenklang 3 band active preamp and finished in a whalepool fade, this finish has never been done before by Dingwall. We had a similar spec bass last year and it was amazing. Its due to leave Canada by the end of next week so we will have it in our hands the week after'.

Yeah, I realize that. Just wondered if other people have switches put in for that?

I have a single bart pickup in another bass that can be wired series, parallel, or hum-buckled. I have a switch to go from series to hum-buckled. Didn't see the point in parallel without the hum-buckle.

Nice. It's a great inspiration for my build... which I just got the official quote on :D Just have to make my final decision on the preamp.
