Who's gonna bite and buy a D-bird?

Man, I can't decide how I feel about it, but I think it's growing on me Curious if it is always gonna be that 3 pickup config? Id prefer that middle one gone, due to my somewhat primitive right hand with a pick technique. I will say Its impressive looking!

Yes, I feel the same way. I have NEVER liked the design. But Sheldon's version has...something about it.

What does it weigh?

Great color and finish. I'm feeling a kind of WWII, P-51 Mustang vibe. I might even put a classy Vargas pin up on that. And give her a name.

I put pinup stickers on the back of all my basses.

It's part of the "nesting" process to find a sticker that compliments the colors and suits the "personality" of the bass...

@singlemalt: 36.25 - 34" scales to better enable down-tuning per Sheldon. There is going to be a limited domestic production run this fall. After that run, they will be made in the shop that produces the Combustion model. These are gonna smoke the originals...

He picked the right location for the strap button! The head stock is the coolest design element IMO...

Yeah I'm with ya.....no go for this guy. Strange things, like the logo should line up at the same angle as the strings...(looks like it's crooked)....and yeaaaahhhhh.....uuummm I will stop there. Lol. Oh well...my bank account is happy that I don't care for it. I'm sure it'll sound great, as do all Dingwalls....but....yikes.

It might not be some players cup of tea, but damn @Sheldon D., that is a really nice job of mixing all the geometries and contours.

I love that Sheldon doesn't always make the obvious choice in design. I think it was the perfect place to do something outside the box. The bass is extremely rectilinear, which is cool, but to line the logo up in the rigidity of those lines is the obvious and ho hum choice. I think the head stock is a bit of a departure anyway, so having the logo follow the upwardly turned design of the head stock is a very cool, and outside the box design choice.

Yeah, while I can appreciate the design (and it definitely looks like a much needed refresh of the T-bird style) and the work that must have gone in - not my cup of tea.

I'll enjoy seeing the reviews when they come in!

Yes. Someone asked a similar question on the facebook page. They said they went with the reduced size head stock to try and balance the bass better than the original design.

my thoughts exactly.... always dug the lines and look of the ricks - soundwise...mehhh. Dingwall would take the sting out of those!

Here here!!
If there was a Dingwall version of the Precision, the Jazz, the Thunderbird, and the 4001 -- that would really cover all the bases/basses.

And I've always loved the sound of the Rickenbacker's pickup right at the end of the fretboard -- there's aren't many basses with pickups in that location and it's a big part of that sonic recipe.
