Where would you say does the NG2 neck profile fit in?

From my experience the NG-2 is much thicker from front to rear and sits full in the palm easily for most positions. It has a nice curvature to it that allows you to slip your thumb up if you need a little more articulation and crosses between the C & D shapes. I would call it a large flattened C shape. Compared to other basses I'd say it sits in the middle in terms of thickness. Also the curvature around the frets seems to be more pronounced but that could also be an affect from the wider shape.

The ABZ in contrast always feels a little skeletal in my hand. It's more of what I would call a flattened D shape. It has a lot of the same kind of curvature as the NG-2 but is just thinner overall. You can especially feel this up near frets 20-24. You also have a slightly different geometry in that area due to the neck/body joint.

I'm very interested to feel the profile of the Z neck. I got used to the Ibanez SR necks which are just as thin as possible and really liked them. When I moved to the ABZ the thicker neck threw me off for a bit but what I love about the Dingwall is that feeling of industrial strength. I imagine the Z's have that same industrial quality while being even thinner which should be very pleasant for me.

When I A/B'd a Super PJ, an ABII and an NG2 against my Spector Euro, the ABII felt the most comfortable for me, to my hands. It felt just like my Streamer Stage 2 neck, which is early 90's and slim, before Warwick started making baseball-bat necks.
This could also be because the ABII had a wenge neck, so I would have been used to the feel of the unfinished neck too.

I remember thinking that all of them felt more comfortable than the Spector (which is why the Spector is no longer in my stable, I guess...)

What flight cases would suit the longer scale Dingwalls? I'm not interested in using gigbags, not even the Mono M80 which I know has a great rep.

When I say flight case, I mean like the Warwick flight cases, the SKB cases etc

While not a flight case, I just bought the 1SKB-44 for my SJ5. It fits well, but is not a perfect fit. I tried my Afterburner in it and it fits, but there is a fair amount of play around the body. It's just a notch below the Pro model, and has the nice TSA latches.

If you really want to go higher end and ensure a fit, this would work:

Sheldon says avoid the open cavity type. I also use the SKB-44 for my Super J and put some t-shirt to pad the space to keep it from moving.
The other thing to look out for (even on the SKB-44) is the occasional hard line in the (what do you call it - fur?)

For a custom fit (though a bit more dough):
Guitar & Bass 1/4" or 3/8" ATA Cases w/Uncut Foam Layers - 3 Sizes!

Might want to be careful with that Sharpie though (you'll see the picture I mean).

I only compared the 5 string NG2 with the Euro and I would agree. Have not yet compared a 4-string.

Yeah, the iSeries are well rated but so damn expensive.

There's a lot of love on there for the Access and Mono bags. Given that I'm not touring like I used to, maybe I look at a Mono for daily use and hold off/save for a decent flight case for those times when I need to go interstate

The thing with gigbags for me is if I fly. Over here in Aus the bass invariably goes under the plane with the luggage, not on the plane with me.
I just simply don't trust a gigbag (even a Mono) to protect my instrument if it gets buried underneath a heap of bags.
And don't get me started on how baggage handers handle equipment marked "fragile"...

Just remember that Spector Euro basses the necks are hand shaved, so there is no consistent shape from one bass neck to the next. I currently have four Spector basses, I have had up to eight at one time. One the neck is very thin, like a "Kramer" shave, another is thick like a Gibson Les Paul D shape neck and the third one is a medium C shape.. I also own an AB1 and the shape of the neck on that bass to me feels more like a Tobias neck without the asymmetrical shape that a Tobias neck has (though I think it would be awesome if it did!) That is my impression on the AB1 neck and how it compares to others that I have owned.. yes, I have owned two Tobias basses and like a fool I sold them both.

I like the Mono cases. Have't yet seen that Gator Pro-Go that was mentioned. Warwick Premium series are 30mm padded.

My (used) Prima shipped in a Warwick ATA case. It seemed to fit fine. I think there was extra foam here/there. It now sits in the music room. Thing is a monster (heavy). All of my travel is via car...so my Prima rides around in a cheapo SKB Freedom case. I feel bad for it...slumming. But it hides the value of the bass inside?! I got a Levy's Leather gig bag from Sheldon, but even that is too nice to take out regularly. If you're ever around Pennsylvania, I could make you a good deal on the Warwick case!

I can't imagine carrying around hard cases. I have a large "semi-hard" case that I use, and even that I want to get rid of and get a couple of Mono cases for my basses. A full on flight case? Nah. Not only heavy, but big and bulky, and I already have to play tetris to get everything in the car for gigs .

In 08 I decided to enroll at the local university for private lessons with their bass instructor. First day I show up with my 08 Fender Precision complete with TSA-approved hardcase.

First thing the instructor said to me, before even introducing himself was

"Get rid of the hardcase and get a gig bag. For Christ's Sake."
