Yeah, never know when you need to throw a bass in a case at someone - we should always be prepared.
I bought a Kramer with hardshell case back in 1976 and that thing has fallen off trucks and the bass was still in tune. I still have it, too (in case I need to throw a case at someone) ha ha.

Sent that back to him, and picked up Smeet's beautiful SPJ5. Mean time, WhirledPeas has been after me for my red one for quite some time, so decided I may as well let him have it and go after my personal favorite. Happy to say I was able to arrange a deal with the owner and I now have this guy coming.

So so stoked. Two Super P's out, two Super P's in. Reminds me, gotta leave feedback for @smeet! Sorry to leave you hangin, buddy! Took the TI's I got from @graphics1988 and strung the Chrome Blue up and it's thumping hard! Also reversed it back to normal and loving it.

I've been enjoying the passive mode on my Super J/P with the tone wide open into my Reeves lately. Sometimes playing in active mode with a new set of steel rounds gives a little too much high-end energy and it's nice to be able to 'take the edge' off by slipping into passive. I don't love inanimate objects, but this oh-so perfect bass is very near and dear to my heart. Here's hoping everyone else can find at least one bass that satisfies in every way, every time. :cool:

Well, @whirledpeas did me a solid yesterday. I had my annual Pacific NW GTG and he brought along his Super-P 5. I of course had my two 'burners there. This was the first time I got to play either of the Super series, and wow, what cool basses they are!
I don't know how many in total, but I had at least 15 or 20 people pick up my AB1s that have never touched a Dingwall before. It was cool to sit with person after person and just watch them "get it". With any luck, hopefully some of them join our little, oddball family :D

Oh, and if anyone happens to be selling a 6 string Dingwall anytime soon (especially an ABZ or AB1), please let me know. I'm going back and forth on whether I want a 5 or 6 for my custom order... so if I can pick up a used 6er, that'll make the decision a whole lot easier. Any spec is fine, though preference would be given to fancy wood tops and active (glock or darkglass) loaded ones :).

I am going to presume that the couple of hits I am getting on the AB1 I have for sale is due to the GTG you were just involved with!

For some reason, I have really just become "fit like a glove" with the long scales, and find it a real adjustment to switch back to the super series.

I used to prefer a 34" standard 4 string when singing lead, and I would play longscale 5s for only those songs that really needed a low B to Eb. Over the last year, I have become super comfortable now singing and not peeking the board too much with the longscale.

So I feel it would be better for me to have money invested in another longscale I will reach for, than a gorgeous bass I will be relegating to spot duty.

Alas, my FD-3 upgrade will have to wait until I move in June. The pickups are just the right size, but to pull the brass threaded inserts and drill/install new ones will take me having a work-space setup and all my tools on hand. And honestly, for the next few weeks I won't have any time to do much bass time anyway. I'm spending the next week packing into a storage unit, the week after we're staying at my in-laws, the week after we're in Charleston for vacation...then we close on our house 3 days after returning.

Until then I've got an 'acoustic practice Dingwall' I pulled the old pickups, removed the pan-pot, then restrung it since this neck seems to be finicky and I didn't want to leave it for a month without the neck up to tension.

In the meantime, there had been questions about a date in the pickup cavities (none present) and the Bartolini pickups that were installed will remain a mystery...there were no markings on the bottoms minus a magic marker 'N' and 'B". You can tell this is well before CNC...that top pickup rout has a bit of a hump in the upper right corner!

Fairly new owner here: I picked up a used early-model Combustion 5 recently. I decided I wanted a different color pickguard so I removed it to send to Terrapin.

Aside from the screw holes, the bass looks... interesting (in a good way) without the pickguard.

Has anyone here removed their pickguard permanently? Curious to see pics!
