Hey guys,

I'm really torn. Any thoughts on my dilemma?

I have a yellow nolly on hold at l and m. The price is about to go up by $125. Just an FYI to all you guys out there. Maybe not every where but l and m always has good pricing.

Anyways, In order for me to get this Nolly I would be trading in my stingray 4 which I have listed for sale currently but I do love it. It is a wicked wicked stingray. Also limited color and pickgaurd. L and m will give me a fantastic price on it but I'm just not sure what to do as I have my AB2 5 and my SJ5 already and my AB2 6 on order...... I feel ******** for asking.

I have my AB2 dropped to D for the band I'm in and it mainly stays in its case when it's at home. I think the nolly would act as a duplicate for the band bass but just stay in the living room until the 6er shows up where as the stingray is just a whole other beast unrelated to anything I do besides enjoy monkeying on it.

Thoughts?

The NG2 is gonna crush the Stingray for tone and playability. Don't think twice about getting rid of the MusicMan.

Fewer NG2s have gone to used market than used MMs. Sure there are fewer Dingwalls overall, but I think it speaks to the quality of the bass as compared to other brands.

It's never going to be a collector item. In the end, the NG2 is an Asian built bass that is being made in relatively high numbers compared to Dingwalls other offerings. It will probably make back what you paid for it should you decide to sell it down the road, but it probably won't appreciate in value like your MM might.

the NG2 will sound and play better, and I'm more interested in taking basses out to play, not letting them sit around in hopes they become collectors items.

So. Generally speaking I would always be in agreement with this statement but I have to disagree on this account. I've now had 2 days of mulling over this and comparing them and here is the outcome.
The nolly....... Well it is a nolly. A made in China dingwall is a fantastic bass with an amazing eq in it. Yes. The sound is freaking awesome. The fb is fast and easy to maneuver. But. I find when compared to my Canadian made dingwalls no comparison on any fronts. None. I have to say the fit and finish on this one in particular( also the first one I've closely examined) is slightly disappointing. The magnetic battery cover is not as "clean" as a Canadian and the paint underneath the finger holes shows imperfection. The paint around the jack was rough and personally I find the neck a little chunky compared to...... And honestly that's about all I can remember to complain about from earlier today..... So a pretty small and pathetic list needless to say.
The STINGRAY. Well it is a MM.
A solid made American production bass. Not all of them are real players but the ones that are..... Wow!!! My stingray is cream of the crop. She is a pedigree MM. I had a small list above for the nolly where as the only thing I have on my list for the MM is that the frets are not fanned. Lol. And that really doesn't count. The neck and fretboard are made to be danced all over and as far as the tone and sound goes..... Deep, rich, precise, extremely variable with the eq and the 5 position switch combined with the dual humbucks. And every little detail on this bass is hand down classy. Finished to perfection.
NOTE TO SHELDON! If you do decide to make a DINGRAY. this is the bass you should model it After. I will be happy to bring it out to you.

In conclusion, I believe the NG2 is awesome and I may end up coming home with it but I don't believe I can part with the stingray to do so. I may in fact actually pull it off the market after these last couple of days as in this comparison, pound for pound my stingray is better then this nolly and I feel I will have major regrets.

Well after all of this, I have to apologize for "thinking out loud here" but I thought there may be some interest in this. I am not straying from the course of a dingbat but one must recognize the quality of a good build regardless of the name on the headstock. I am crazy excited about my AB2 6 that is in the works and between it and my SJ I may have a hard time finding time to play any others but for now....... There she be.

Seems weird to go through all of that work, doesn't it? And I bet that the original parts are now gone, too. Also, I guess the body has been changed, as I didn't think the first Combustions had the A/P switch. So we basically have a modded original Combustion with everything else new... for $1250. Seems pretty ambitious, to me :)

Hmmmm. If it's a yes or no answer I'm going to have to say yes. Serial # is????

As for the price $1650 isn't that bad really as long as it's still a great sounding player I suppose. I'm not interested myself though. 1300 CAN would be a little easier to swallow
