Dingwall Owners Club

Well looks like I have another 7 months before the arrival of my ABZ6....
I'm 6-ish months out on mine (late December or early January was what I found out last week).

I'm also on the lookout for anyone with those awesome purpleburst ABs, like this:

Don't want to change my order as I'm happy with it just how it is, but having that purple in my hands sure would be sweet, too!

At the Seattle Talkbass GTG last month, I tried my first Dingwall. The fanned frets at first scared me but once I picked one up, I was amazed at how natural it felt. I've been thinking about Dingwalls ever since. This last weekend I walked into The Bass Shop here in West Seattle and one thing lead to another. I put a deposit down on a black NG-2 and will probably take possession of it in a month or so. I think it will be a cool bass to add to my arsenal.

Nice! Was it one of mine, or was it @whirledpeas' Super P?
Either way, glad to hear that another local player will have a Dingwall!

Chad is cool, of course. I like his new shop, and he is where I ordered my AB 1 through as well. I keep an eye on his used, too, as on occasion he seems to get Dingwalls.

Hey Ray,

I didn't get a chance to play yours. It was whirledpeas' Super P. Great bass. I do realize the NG-2 is going to be a bit longer scale but I'm not concerned. I really like the NG-2 demos out on youtube.

Chad has always been a great guy to work with. I think he has a really good thing going and it should eventually fill the void left by the closing of BassNW. Additionally, it is in walking distance from my house. We briefly talked about your custom build. The wait will go by quick and you are going to have a killer instrument. I don't think I can justify a custom Dingwall yet, but if I fall in love with the NG-2, who knows? One of my life mottos is never say never.

I will post pics once I take possession of the bass.

Sweet! I'm looking forward to seeing yours. I haven't played an NG-2 myself, so it'll be cool to hear your thoughts on it... and hopefully see it at my GTG next year :D

Directly comparing my AB1s to his Super P, I didn't really notice the scale difference all that much. Both scales felt very comfortable to me, and of course, had the awesome Dingwall tone. You'll definitely have to let me know when you play a gig with it, too, and I'll see if I can clear my schedule to come out :D

I put an order for a Black Dingwall Combustion with a black pick guard and rosewood fingerboard back in January. While waiting for that bass to arrive I tried other models (I really like an abz they had) and almost pulled the trigger on a black NG2 but decided not to as I was looking for a more less aggressive sounding bass (and I have never really much been of a maple fingerboard person).

I got possession of my new bass last week and I used it at church last Sunday all I got to say is holy smokes the clarity!

The sound guy barely eq my bass, I take that as a huge complement. Its a keeper and now I'm part of this club :P

I just couldn't handle it. But I'll say this: I love my ABZ6. The P5 is getting more playtime lately given that I'm subbing in a classic rock band, but I couldn't see flipping the 6 for anything else. The wait will totally be worth it.

I've been wondering whether I should change my ABIXXX build from a 5 string to a 6, but given that I'm used to playing 5 strings, demoed a 5 string Dingwall and haven't really played 6 strings much I'm kinda uneasy about spending the coin on one...

Just have to ask yourself why you'd buy a 6er at all, of any make/model. If you have time (I don't know how far along you are in your order), you could pickup a cheapie 6er to see if it is "for you" and go from there, too. I've owned 6s off and on over the past... decade? I know I need a Dingwall six. I also need a purple one, so I'm hoping someone sells theirs :D
