You can install Nordstrand Big Singles if you have the old rectangle pu covers. They sound awesome.

The rounded pu shells leave you with no alternative.

Are there any pickups that are single coil available for a Dingwall?

I'm coming from a single coil loaded J bass and basically anything else that I play is too dark sounding and not open enough.

If love to get a set of Nordstrand Big Singles, but I'm curious if there is anything readily available before I go down the custom route.

Thanks, Dave W. They are regular, left hand orientation. Right hand orientation works perfectly as well. The Nordstrand's 19mm spacing works with the Dingwall's 18mm spacing when angled.

It's an awesome rig but I had a pretty crazy weekend around here with a few major changes to the family.
The f bass shipped off to its new home on Saturday and then for Father's Day this came together.

Lol Friday I had no intent of owning a Z3 for quite a few years down the road just cause of the shear cost compounded with my other purchases. But sometimes a plan just comes together.
I guess I need to take some new family photos.

Damn!!! I too was eyeing that beauty for a while now, but the wife wouldn't allow due to the international thing. I even phoned Mr Pooshoes directly to try and help talk her into it.

Your bass' pickups should be wired (internally) in parallel which is essentially 2 single coils each picking up half the strings. Sounds close to a "true" single coil.
They can be rewired in series fairly easily (by soldering together 2 wires coming off each pickup), which should shift the sound towards a P vibe (louder and middier). Worth checking especially if you're not the first owner. Maybe they factory wired them differently at a time as well?

Combustions have EMG 40 sized pickups.

The earlier Afterburners with square ended pickups are Bartolini P2 size, 4.25" x 1.25", which is pretty common - but be aware that the routes are a little on the shallow side. I've got a set a Nordstrand Fat Stacks in an AB1 and it'd be nice if there was a wee bit more room to adjust their height. Big Singles are shorter than Fat Stacks, so not an issue with them.

I'm in the process of joining a really good guitar/vocal/writer for a rock trio (still looking for the right drummer - funnily enough we've both played drums for about 15 years)

He plays in D and drop C tunings and I actually bought a cheap 4 string bass to tune like him. Just thought playing the material on a 5 string would sacrifice some of the mandatory energy because of less intuitive / more technical fingerings. And visually I didn't think either a 5 or fanned frets would be the best fit for the project.

First rehearsal - I show up with my brand new Epiphone (which plays amazingly well for the price).
An hour later the guy asks if I could use "that bass from the video I sent him" instead. Dingwall SP5 it is then.

Hey guys, I am interested in a Z3 and I have seen one with the voodoo switch system. I understand that it basically splits a single coil into two so the two / three singles can act as variations of a P bass.

What I don't get is, can it get the same pickup configurations as the regular Z3 with the rotary switch?

I highly doubt it can go parallel / series but does this voodoo system give me more variations of tones or is this a very specific bass that excels in variations of P tone?

The voodoo switch allowed you to select separate pickups for the B/E and ADG(C) strings. I don't think that system is available any more. But for example, you could have the B/E on the bridge/middle pickups and the A-G strings on the neck pickup at the same time.

3.) I don't have an epoxied fretless fingerboard.
Therefore I need an ABII. I'm saving money on two basses!

I think it's a good bit over 9 months, now. I ordered on 3/3/16, and Sheldon's last guess (a couple of weeks ago) was that it'll be done either at the very end of December, or early January.

It's easily real...... And worth the wait.

That said if I am liable I'm going to have to inspect it before I can confidently put it in your hands. So that said, just have it shipped to my place and I'll forward it along to you once I feel it's safe to do so.

For the D-Bird I ordered last month and the Z3 I ordered last week I was quoted 12 months. But I think it is very dependent and difficult to project actual construction.
