Let us know ow how alternating between a long scale and short scale works. Until my SJ5XXX arrives I'm alternating between an ABI and a Roscoe SKB 3005 with only a slight oops here and there. Wondering if an all Dingwall rotation will be even easier (I assume it will). BTW, just a stunning bass!

I have been alternating between a Z3 and a SJ5 for a couple of years. This new SJ5 replaces my old one, which I sold. I have no issues switching but need to look at the fretboard more often! Since I love the tone of the new SJ5 so much, and its new to me, I probably won't be playing my Z3 for a few weeks...Here is a picture of that one:

I don't even have any Dingwalls at the moment but one of my basses is a Peavey Cirrus long scale and I just got a Hofner short scale. I was dreading having problems going between them but actually it really is easy for me; surprising actually.

Well, the more that I play with the new Payson strings from @Blues Cat, the more I'm finding that I'm enjoying them. In particular, I made a lot of use a newly designed string of his (I'm not sure it's actually publicly available - Payson?) made for Drop A tuning. While it may be designed for Drop A, it feels great for standard B as well - not too tight by any means. At the same time, in Drop A, it feels great under finger and pick. Next week I'll make some recordings during rehearsal - I, like a fool, forgot to grab the power for my interface, so I couldn't make any tonight like I had wanted to / planned to do .

I don't really know the details of the string or what Payson did to make it feel this way. At rehearsal tonight, it just felt so very nice, especially as I bounced between standard and Drop A tunings. Hopefully he can chime in here and at least talk a little about the details of it since I can't (I hope that doesn't violate the CUP). Previously, with Dingwall strings and even the standard set from Payson, when I dropped to A the string was just a bit too loose feeling for what I play. For a spell, I had a Kalium string on the B, and Paysons on everything else, to make that Drop A really work (and, as such, Pi was always in Drop A, and Pi was in standard). Now, I feel like I don't need to do that.

Next week, I'll also get to spend a little more time with the new F# string from Payson too. I have one more F# from Kalium on the way, so I'll be able to do a pretty direct head-to-head of the two, for those that may be interested. I know I'm not the only one going to F# with their Dingwall, but I also know that not many folks do

Say I wanted to special order a blue ng2 4 string tuned BEAD.

How long am I looking at. I'm going on tour for two months. And would love to have it when I got back.

Most probably would be 6-7 months unless you can find a dealer with one on order.

I'm glad you're liking them Selta.

The .170T and .145T are not available yet. We're tweaking the F#0 to obtain more harmonics. We're doing the same to the .145T too, just to see.

I'm glad you're liking them Selta.

The .170T and .145T are not available yet. We're tweaking the F#0 to obtain more harmonics. We're doing the same to the .145T too, just to see.

Put me down for a new one of each when you have the new formula done
I didn't find the F# to be lacking in harmonic content - at least, not much more than others. It doesn't have a wooly feel to it - but I run a fair amount of mids dialed in and some dirt thrown on top which may be helping. I'll take a little more traditional approach with it when I get back from vacation, and see how I feel about it (and, will post or let you know privately, accordingly).

Kind of random question but does dingwall do refinishes? Or do you guys thing it would devalue a dingwall if it was refinished by someone else?

I am not sure if they do refinishing, actually. Both are good questions. I would say that, in my mind, to answer the second question is highly variable to give a blanket answer . Are we talking about refinishing a Combustion, or an Canadian one?
