Dingwall Owners Club

There was this AB2 which I almost pulled the trigger on. Price was pretty good:

Couldn't really tell the finish from the photos, and the seller went totally dark on me which gave me some cold feet at pulling the trigger.

I'm watching this one to see if GC knocks a few hundred off the sticker:

:D
that eBay AB2 was nice looking. Too bad about the gouge and the seller issues.

Yeah, mostly considering the tone but certainly would welcome opinions on the feel, especially the neck. My AB1 neck was very slim front to back and have heard the Z's are even more so.

I've had the DG preamp in a few basses now and know that it can exert its voicing but, yes, was wondering the subtleties of what the different woods "may" bring. Definitely not trying to bait anyone into a "wood lives matter" argument.

I went from walnut body and neck with wenge fb on my ab2 to ash body walnut neck and b e m fretboard on Z3.

With that my electronics changed sooo much too that it was a major contrast for me.
I like to try basses unplugged as well and that is where I believe I can hear some tonal differences between woods.

"Wood Lives Matter"

So when Sheldon posted the NG-2 prototype (yellow with ebony fret board) I was pretty sure I would kick a puppy for that bass. He just posted this Plum Crazy Purple - esk dBird on FB.

This makes me feel all funny, like I'm 11 and don't understand the changes in my body. Pretty sure I would do deplorable things to own this bass.

When you know, you know, and what I know is that SJ5s or even SP5s work for me. I just don't want to play anything else. To that end, as much as I like my featherweight 2006 vintage, TI loaded ABI5, I want a SJ or SP to leave at practice so I don't have to haul my SJ5XXX back and forth, especially as colder weather is on the horizon.

With that in mind, I'm going to put the ABI up for sale or sale/trade towards a Super 5. Posting it here first in case anyone here wants to begin a dialogue. When I get on the computer, I'll post a few photos here and then do the classifieds thing in a couple of days.
