The FedEx man made my morning!!! I hadn't even gotten out of my PJs!!! I played it for an hour or so. I will offer a lot more later, but I wanted to share some pics and join the club!

HOLEEE COW! Man, it looks even better in your pics. So, how's it sound? :)

My first impressions are that is absolutely the most "Jekyll and Hyde" instrument I have ever come across.

The rotary pickup selector is extremely cool. It gives you bridge, both par, both series, neck. There's no blend on the bass. While I could see how a blend would be nice, I also like the simplicity of the layout. But what you get is an EXTREME variation in tone between the selections.

The neck only is nice and round and mostly tame. Still VERY articulate and quick but probably the most "round" of the tones as you would expect. The bridge selection is also about what you would expect in a soloed bridge tone -- that grinding honk that you get with the bridge dig.

The real "wow" comes in the two paired PU selections. The parallel is very, very modern hi-fi. tight bottom end. It's Dr. Jekyll. Very present with no boom or mud at all. The balance of character and texture of the tone high end to low end is very impressive. Modulus' claim of "one big string" comes to mind. It is, however, VERY clean. If you are into a warm, fuzzy tone, it will not be your cup of tea.

And then there's Mr. Hyde. The series tone is like a giant, tractor-mounted buzz saw that could clear the rain forest by lunch break. It is VERY aggressive. In fact, started with the F1 dead flat and ended up actually dialing a touch of mid out of it. It is GRINDY. It is certainly one of the most unique "straight out of the bass without extreme EQ" sounds that I can recall in a long time. I honestly can't think of anything to compare it to.

The Glockenklang preamp has a bit of that Sadowsky vibe in that you can push the boost quite a bit without it getting out of the usable range. My first impressions of the preamp are very favorable.

The thing plays extremely comfortabley, despite the fact that I have not played a tighter-spaced five since parting with the Q. I had no issues at all with the fanned frets. I didn't even really pay that much attention to it to be honest. I saw it as a none issue.

the only awkward thing about is how "petite" that it is compared to what I have been playing for a while. The neck is VERY thin and delicate. This one is the upgraded walnut with graphite neck. the satin finish is different, but I do think I will enjoy it.

It hangs really well. I ended up shortening the strap two notches though. I seem to have to play it a little higher to get comfortable.

Anyway, I love it.

Vic,

I hope you get a chance to check it out before too long. I think you will dig it.

Sheldon's getting pretty good at this stuff IN HIS OLD AGE!

What a gorgeous bass, I can hear that low B from Vancouver, BC.

Amazing, man, congrats.

And BTW, what are the woods again?

Cheers,
Cameron

Walnut body core. The top is spalted maple, I believe. They call it a "Toscha" top, but I don't think that means any thing.

This bass also has the upgraded walnut neck. The FB is Wenge, I believe.

Awesome bass. It is VERY easy to play.

That is a truly exceptional bass! Congrats! :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

I believe the Toscha 'top' refers to a person, rather than the type of wood. Sheldon explained it at one point. Maybe he'll drop in and explain again. :)

Either way it's a very nice figured maple/spalted top. I have beautiful Z, yet I've been playing my AB a lot at home these days and its still a ripper of a bass.

It's spalted burl maple. A very unusual piece.
