Dingwall Owners Club

so.... i don't know how you all do it. the patience i mean. i'm waiting on my first Dinger (my first "nice" bass actually), and it's been 7 weeks since i ordered, another 5 to 9 weeks estimated till it ships.

and the wait.... is KILLING me.....

the top pic is of the neck going on the body of the bottom pic.

i'm also going through Gary at GuitarX (great guy. somebody else ordered from him? i forget who). but i just went through all the Dingwall Porn Pics on this site..... and it is NOT helping.

how do you guys not freak out waiting?

just to clarify - the pic on the bottom is an ABZ body, it's going to be an AB I body, but that's the only pic i could find in the color i ordered. so my body will be Alder, not Ash and a Gloss finish, not a Satin.

thanks for the heads up Sheldon!

Thanks for the clarification, I was going "huh?" in my head until you told us what was going on!

yeah. i've been using Dean Edge Q 6's for awhile now. the B is.... ok. WAY better since i had it professionally set up. but just OK. i got to get my hands on a AB II 5'er.... and MAN. that B is just ridiculous. i'm looking forward to the high C too.

RollerBURGer - yeppers! i think this is going to fill every need i have for a bass. i'm so damn excited. i've played (other people's) some nice basses over the years. the idea of the fanned fret system has always really appealed to me, and after i got to play with a Dinger for a bit... it was over. it's the first bass i played that made me feel "i get it. THIS is the difference between a top of the line and a decent bass.".

....... but might have to buy a second as a backup. darn it.

lol.... i might be out of the country when it's completed. so.... would be nice if it's here when i get back, but my grrL's gonna be a LITTLE pissed when i tell her i have to go home early.

Heh. I want to eventually get an ABII, perhaps a fretless with cheater lines...although even a ABII with frets would be great. I really like the passive/active switch, and I'm not good enough at working with electronics to install one on my Combustion. Perhaps with a flame or marbled top, transparent color going from dark green on the edges to a silver in the center... yeah, I've got my dream bass in my head, but suspect as I'll probably be trying to buy a used ABII, I'll have to take what I can get as far as color / finish go!

Trying to get a mental picture of what you have in your head, it sounds cool!

Have you thought about grabbing a used Combustion if and when they start coming on the market? You could defret it, have it wired the way you want and have it finished the way you want. That would be a less expensive way to go to create what you're going for. Having Sheldon do it would be really expensive and take a long time, but there are competent luthiers out there willing to take on a project like that I'll bet.

Yeah, the used Combustion is a decent idea, but still going to be a while before I can save up the dimes to buy even a used one. Took me over a year to save up for the one I now have! Plus definately wouldn't have the finish I am dreaming about. Heh. I'll be visiting San Diego around Jan-Feb this year to see family, and will be going to Bass San Diego definately while I'm there. Maybe they'll have an ABII there I can try out. But as has been said before, caressing Dingwalls can cause problems, especially if I have much in the way of Christmas money left! (perhaps not a BAD problem, in many ways - heh!)
