humm... going from a passive abxxxx to a passive Z3... what would be the difference?

My experience is limited, but in back to back comparisons at a dealer meet, the rounder edges, slender neck, etc., make the Z feel more...

I prefer the deeper neck profile and overall chunkier feel of the Afterburners, but many would disagree. Stature might affect this, as I'm a great big lump (6'3", 240lb).

Tone is harder to characterize, especially given all the pickup variations available.

Suffice to say that both are in the Dingwall long-scale family, with that trademark clarity and broad frequency response.

Yesterday I got my NG2, and today I had my first band practice with it. I't everything I hoped, and then some. If we're handing out numbers to the club, I'll take one. Otherwise I'll just make myself at home here.

My NG2 4 string finally made its way to Canada and is heading to the dealer this week. I should finally have it in my hands around the 1st (figures that after almost a whole year it will arrive while we are traveling for the holidays so I have to delay the dealer shipping to me). Excited to take this for a spin in the new year!

Sorry if this has be discussed before. I have a Z3 tuned B-E-A-D-G. I also have an SJ5. I'm going try tuning the SJ5 to E-A-D-G-C with the last 5 of a 6 string set (.030 for the C). Seems like it would be the perfect bass for this, especially with the 32" scale C string. Anybody try this?

I did almost exactly the same thing by putting on a four-string set I had laying around and purchasing a single C, with no change of the nut. No rattles or tuning issues (a wide swing in gauges from stock could be a different matter). There is no brittleness to the C, and the E and A are nicely firm. Love it.

I'm running the DR pure blues E-C. I've just installed the lightest set (100-.040)with an .030 C.

I haven't changed the nut, and with this lightest set, I got a small rattle on the open G (normally the D), which I fixed by putting a bit of heat shrink under the string.

Other than that, I have the lowest, slinkyest action yet. Couldn't be happier.

I don't miss the low B, and the C is really cool.

Going back to having the E where it always was for decades on a four string was so nice.

I'll be trying a set of TI jazz flats E-C next.

Bassstringsonline.com has single C's to go with most sets.

I have been meaning to order one of their chargers. It would be nice to have on hand to re-charge mid-set if on a really dark stage. They seemed reasonably priced as well.

I got a Scorpion on Amazon, it has 51 LED elements and is quite strong, it has worked well for the side dots on my SJ5XXX

Thank you! I've been trying to figure out what to do about charging the dots on my PJ. I've never actually used them. About how long do you have to hold it over each dot?

Saw a post that suggested a VTBass pedal...

I did a search RE these and it got me thinking so I sat down and started by switching to position 3 on my SJ5XXX, then I set the series/parallel switches in the down/off position. Going to my cmd121h home amp, I turned the bass knob off, and set the mid and treble knobs to 2 o'clock (the VLE/VLF knobs are always off). At these settings I got an acceptable and pleasing growl. I hope this works as well on my practice and gigging amps! If not, the cmd121h will become both, all I would have to do is get another 12" cab instead of buying a bass for 2-3 songs. Win-win, the cmd121h is the best sounding rig I've ever owned.

Shouldn't any UV flashlight work to charge? Or is the luminlay different than other glow in the dark stuff?

It appears that any UV flashlight will work. I didn't know if there was something proprietary about the luminlay charger, but it doesn't seem that way.

Nothing proprietary, but just the ideal wavelength (allegedly) for recharging the luminlays the most quickly.

Any idea what that wavelength is? The lights on Amazon all seem to be about 390.

You can see it explained on the luminlay web site I believe. I'm tied up for a while today, but if you search this thread, I believe there is a link to their site and a discussion in the thread about this. I may have the site link stored on my laptop, so I'll try to find it later this afternoon if you can't find it.

It doesn't look like there are any actual specs anywhere. I found the discussion here and checked out the luminlay site. I'm just going to get a small UV flashlight from Amazon and see how it goes. Thanks!

When you look, try to get something that runs on AAs, AAAs don't last as long and can get a little more expensive.
