I have a question about a future purchase I hope to make at some point. I'm planning to get a new combustion 5 and mod it to 3X. I'd like to make this happen with only buying one additional pickup. I'd like to put a P tone in the neck position. Based on some info a couple pages back, with the new P tone in the neck position, I would have to move what was the original neck pickup to the bridge position and what was the original bridge pickup would become the new middle pickup?
Just want to make sure I understand everything correctly. Thanks!!!
I would double check with the shop. My V4 combustion with the square pick ups did not have room for three pick ups with out routing the body to fit them. This may have changed since then, so it is worth looking in to.
I much prefer the long-scale format ergonomically, as well as tonally. I have also just sold my ABZ, which I also loved.
One of the prettiest ABZ's without an upgraded top I've ever seen, because I really prefer the alder to the swamp ash in tone. Just a personal preference thing. I didn't even know Sheldon had started using alder, until I saw a few ABI's last year that were spec'd with alder. When I received my ABI from Down Under, I knew I was finally zeroing on my Dingwall tonal sweet spot. When Jon made his ABI available, and I found out that it too was alder as well as a 3x, I pounced.
