Nice! I love the tone. Tuned BEAD?
I just spent some time on my SPJ5, to refresh memories, I added an FDV to the bridge and installed a tort reverse P pickguard. Both made a huge difference. To me, with the original P configuration, the BE strings overpowered the DG, so I had to pluck them more towards the neck and hit them harder as well (yes tried PUP height adjustments, helped but didn't solve). Problem now solved, plus the DG tone now has more meat to it. But wait, there's more! My SPJ5 now sounds more like a true P in that it has more growl to the P solo'd. Before, it had more bass, and a polite growl, or in other words, sounded very similar to my SJ5XXX neck PUP solo'd, so it sounded pretty much like the same bass but with 2 PUPs. Not anymore, it has its own thing going, this is gonna be fun. Plus, the FDV in the bridge adds more growl and mids to all settings, and even appears to have a useable solo tone! I'm so very happy with bass now
Also, I thought the bass looked too dark with the black pickguard, I prefer the color contrast with the excellent Dingwall tort coloring, IMO, the bass is now stunning drool
And 3rd, for probably the 1st and last time I disagree with Sheldon, I prefer the looks of the reverse P, I think the lines flow better.
I'll get some photo's up later.
Tort guard!!Man, that Juno program is on its last legs, painful to use. Anyway, sorry for the poor photos, it was overcast here, and was using my 6-7 year old phone. Also, plastic is still on the tort pickguard, so it will be deeper in color and shiny.

For Sale - Dingwall Z3X6
Serious waffling on this one, but it's just more of a want than a need right now. A very, very bad want, but alas. Up for now, we'll see what happens from there.
.......turd...
It ain't my fault you snagged an SJ instead!
Or maybe, like me, you'll realize Super 5s are where it's at!Maybe after this sale the mods will ban me and the hypnosis will break. Or maybe I'll just spend more time on Reverb.

Maybe after I put Ptones in the M and B positions I'll get the camera out.I'd be curious to see your J against a snowy back drop!!! that's if we could even see it!!
I'm pretty happy with my new-to-me Combustion (V4 I think), just wanted to ask if there's anything you all would recommend checking on a used Dingwall before deciding to keep it?
When it arrived the strings were dead as all hell, and for some reason the truss rod was very tight, but I loosened it up and put on new Dingwall strings and its playing really well. I've got the neck pretty flat, but I can only see a little warping in the neck near the nut. That said, under close inspection it doesn't look unusual to me and it plays well, so I'm not too concerned with neck issues.
The frets were pretty filthy upon arrival, but that's nothing some cleaning and polishing could fix. The frets show wear, but they don't look bad. Not much different looking from my 1 year old NG-2.
After cleaning it up all the hardware is working well, and I'm not hearing anything strange. I checked the control cavity and its still in factory-condition. The input jack could use tightening and maybe a re-solder, but that's not unusual for a bass that's been used for a while.
The neck is definitely showing more age than my NG-2, being quite a bit darker in color, but that's just maple being maple to my knowledge
Is there anything else I should check?
