I surfed youtube deep and wide without success...some of you lucky guys could record something? I am intrigued, ya know. The pj is a very unique beast.

More. I searched the sea and the lands for a dingwall color chart but I failed. Is there a page somewhere showing all D colors?

There isn't really a color chart for the Canadian models...from the crazy number of different finishes I've seen I believe they practically come up with new finishes by request.

The website (which has a pending rebuild very very soon) does list some 'standard' colors on the specs page, although since the basses are built to order and individually, you can make arrangements for your favorite color, although there will most presumably be a commensurate upcharge.

I really ought to do some clips of my SPJ5. My playing is just a bit, erm, rusty lately and I need an XLR cable. Soon!

Can anyone point me in the direction of some backing tracks? I could always just throw a random Drummer loop on in Logic, but easier still would be to jam over a well known song or two to showcase the range of tones.

Yes, as others have said, the OmniCabSim works fantastic for headphone practice. That is exactly how I do all of my practicing during the week since it has to happen late at night when everyone is sleeping. Just a bass and an OmniCabSim is all that is needed for a complete practicing solution. (And 9VDC power supply and instrument cable of course.)

Very pleased with this setup. About to add an Aguilar Filter Twin next to the Chorus and then it's 100% DONE. No more. That's it. Finished. Maxed out. Never again to click on the Pedals section in the Classifieds. Putting this in writing to remind myself next time I get the urge...

BTW everything is on velcro except the OmniCabSim and the FifthGear, because those two need to be able to come off to move to the Guitar pedalboard as needed. The OmniCabSim works awesome on Guitar too.

Now excuse my ignorance but what is the point of having the OmniCabSim and the SansAmp on your pedal board? I thought they basically did the same thing? Is the point of these pedals not to have a preamp and be able to go direct? Or do you still run the pedals into a preamp out of a cab?

They are quite different things although they are both Tone shapers.

It also makes me wonder what the L&M crowd gets to see in store that we foreigners don't get to see online. Is Dingwall doing "shop builds" or are they all pre-order only at this point? I'd have to think that the nearer retailers may get pick of the litter on shop stuff, but could be wrong about that

I am in proximity to l and m and formerly axe was the local distributor. This has played a large factor in my opportunity for this. All of that said. When axe was the distributor they had 2-4 Canadian mades on he wall at most times..... when the economy was better. They also had a hand full of combustions when hey first came out. That said axe seems to be on the steady decline for probably 6 years now. I'm waiting for the close out signs to go up any day.
L and m during that same era had some nice over seas warwicks in selection at all times and when they took over Dingwall they also had a couple of Canadian made in but that was very short lived and I'd say for the last 3 years (besides about 1 abs every 10 months) I've seen the SJ4. There has been talk of them placing stock orders but so far nothing is happening. At this current economic state (and with internet shopping) I just think the retailers are shying back from holding high dollar stock considering most of the population in hard pressed to justify $1000 on a bass let alone $5000. In this city out of all the musicians I bet there is maybe under 20 bass players that consider shelling out that kind of dough.

It's probably a good thing for me but I don't have to like it. It sucks going to the music stores and not even seeing anything interesting compared to what's at home. Lol.


Side note for reference.....
when I had my SJ5 built it was a 12--3 month wait and Dingwall delivered in that time. 2015 I think. Now I'm basically at 10 months of my wait which was quoted 14-16 months I believe..... it's a long wait to be sure.

Honestly though. I kind of like the fact that you can't just go to any store and buy a Canadian made Dingwall. They are special and I like it that way. It's exciting finding one used for sale IMO.

Even the Chinese where kind of special but as the new shop gets ramped up they are gonna be a dime a dozen.

This would be great if you can. I've been wanting to hear some clips of your bass after you had the bridge P/U added. I've been thinking of doing a similar mod, but have not yet pulled the trigger.

Per @BuffaloBob4343 's recommendation, I ordered up a set of reduced-core nickels for my new to-me NG-2 from @Blues Cat . Dude has lighting quick order response. Looking forward to hearing and feeling these...

I look forward to hearing what you think of them. I like them on my two pickup AB1, but prefer the stainless steels on my 3x AB1.

I like what the reduced core does for the D and G strings. Phattens them up a bit , and reduces the harmonics. They have a bit more tension than the regular nickel steels, so at some point you wiill notice that. For me, I really don't mind the slight increase in tension to get their tone. I bet they sound great on the Nolly.

I had no idea you'd churned so many. I've only ever sold one (my first, a WPB AB-1 from 2005), and have pretty much regretted that since, although I feel that the NG I just bought is just as good or better in many ways (not the super flamey maple top though).

I've never ever had the chance to play a Dingwall in a shop. And I still don't believe there are any to be found within a decent and reasonable drive to test-pilot one. Yet at the same time, I've bought a small handful of wonderful Dingwalls that also happen to be fairly recognizable and/or iconic instruments. In the meantime, I've really done my best to put my basses into every set of hands that are owned by someone who's asked. While I can't lay claim to Jacob, there are more than a few players who tested mine before buying.

This all said, I'm about a week and a half into the new NG, and it's proving to be a really wonderful bass. Entry level or not, this is a world class instrument.

I was initially a bit concerned because a few of the old guarde Dingwall guys have expressed some negative opinions (a few in public but also in confidence). I've found this was unfounded. The action is as low or lower than my others, the feel and tone are pure Dingwall. I was working some of our set material last night at home (we've been off since NYE), and the stuff down low has at least as much clarity and beef and coherence as any of the others. It's taken a little bit to fit my head around the Tone Capsule, and I wont' really have it all sussed until I'm on stage with it, but I think I like how it acts. It takes a little bit of an adjustment in thinking about how to use it, and little adjustments go a long way. Rolling the 500hz off just a tiny bit really makes the bass sound traditional in the mids, or dialing it up to the notch makes it present in the mix but not obnoxious.

I'm in the process of starting a recording (hence the OmniCabSim questions and whatnot). First two songs on the EP were recorded with my old bass, but the third will be with the SP5. I'm definitely posting the song here when it's done. I'm planning on creating a recording setup with an LR Baggs Stadium DI followed by the OmniCabSim.

I can't even imagine the power of the 2500!

The last time I gigged my Tardis 700, I got to hear another player through the Tardis into two Genzler BA12-3 Bass Array Cabs. He was obviously too loud in the mix, and I asked my sound guy if he could turn him down in the FOH. To which he replied: "He is already OUT of the FOH!

I had the 700 set up with the Line Level pushed IN (not out), and turned only a bout half way up! The Equalizer was set flat. I had to get him to turn his bass down twice, and finally snuck up and lowered the Line Level! This was against two guitars with stage amps, a loud drummer and three singers, all of whom were in the FOH as well.

I can't imagine ever needing more power than that.

I was once asked to turn down my stage volume at a rock festival using my Monique 700 and a single 15/6 cab

Those pedals do entirely different things: one is HPF and LPF filters w a few other EQ options, the other is tube amp simulation.

I regularly run both pedals in series to amp and cab live, straight through Monique DI in the studio

Yep I feel spoiled and I think it's given me a pretty great understanding of Dingwall products.
I definitely wish I could have kept a few of them but it's just realistic. My Ab2 was glorious and I still have a small hope that I can get it back one day. The glockenglang 2 band is probably the only thing I would have changed to a 3 band but it's no slouch by any means. I just would have liked more mid control for the metal stuff.

I believe I have made a comment or 2 mentioning distaste for the ng2 but a lot of that is completely based on the fact I have the privilege of owning Canadian made they are among the best production basses out there. I would put them in with really nice EBMMs and a MTD Kingston ZX I played that was just beautiful( advantage still Dingwall). If it was my only Dingwall option I'd still be a Dingwall player. That said, to say a NG2 is as good as a late Z3 is just not the case.

ng2 tonal ability is fantastic as is a Z3 but with a more customizable sound.(ie wood selection) but playability..... nope. Not even close. The Canadian necks are just superior. Period.

I swear the neck on my last combustion was sooooo close to an ab neck but but I've played a few that just didn't come close. At the end of the day they are a production bass built to a spec in a factory and just are not given the same love despite the set up..... that's bound to happen with anything. All of that said, depending on the feel of the neck I may end up with another ng2 with 3x, maybe 6 or maybe a china d bird.

Either way. I'm just a guy with a Dingwall addiction who doesn't even have the skills to back it!!!
