Curious, why do you have an HPF after the OmniCab? Even at the largest cab setting, it already has a highpass around 70Hz
I bought it as a backup/quick fix. Just arrived yesterday so it’s brand new but these are my anticipated reasons.
If , for some reason, I don’t want the full OCSD effect, I still have access to a straight HPF. And one I can slip in my pocket, if, for some strange reason I don’t bring my full board.
Also, if there’s anything funny going on as far as lowend mud, I can (hopefully) clean it up with a quick stomp as opposed to bending over to futz with a knob mid song.
I wanted one of these way before I bought my first OCSD, (I have V2 as well now) and had to scratch that itch still.
Agedhorse posted some info a while back regarding cascading HPF’s. I found it interesting at the time. I’ll have to see if I can dig it up as I’ve forgotten his conclusions.
Time will tell if I’m overthinking it a bit.

Besides, it’s cute and there was a perfect leftover space for it. :smug:

How I feel when all this pedal talk comes up.

Good gravy, I need to step up my pedal board game. Or at least my pedal knowledge and know-how.

As an another weird HPF example...I've got an HPF early in my signal chain, and a OCSD at the end. My HPF is after my compressor, and before my various distortion effects. I'm not married to the signal path right now, but I like carving out the sub-bass end before I hit distortions/overdrives. I've had good results so far with this signal path, giving my NG-2 that's in F# a tighter sound.

Tuner to compressor to HPF to clean blended MXR 5150 to MBD-1 to B7KU to Damnation Audio Contour Pre to OCSD to noise gate to JDI.

Awesome.

Pedals are a DEEP rabbit-hole to descend into...next thing you know, you're measuring forward-voltage on diodes, and daisy-chaining them together to tune the clipping to your preference.

Then, you look up and it's 3am...

Nice!

I've been thinking about doing that myself.

I like it.

Nothing succeeds like excess :D

This is really interessing. I have my HPF last just before my preamp (B7K). But I like the fact that I can get a tighter sound out of my bass if I place it early in the chain. I will have to experiment.

I run a crossover loop at the start of my chain, then have the effects apply to the stuff above the crossover point, it then recombines with the lower stuff, and I have level controls for low/high and original signal. All of that then hits my HPF which really just pulls out stuff below 35hz.

True. Having a bunch of unwanted low freq content can really muddy things up. I found with my NG2 that with distortion it sounded much better with the bass and mid controls on the instrument backed way off.

Would you mind sharing a pic of your setup? :D

It's nothing fancy to look at. Here in it's 'smallest' compact format:

On stage it'ts a little bigger, since I have an expression pedal for the Xerograph and run a few additional things along the way. I've been playing with a funky 80's Ibanez bi-mode chorus (which when you adjust it right does a really odd de-tuning thing) in the loop, and I recorded with a Fulltone Fulldrive II, but I've also used a Danelectro Marshall Major knockoff and a handful of other things. , and have a few other bits and pieces.

The Divaricator is where the signal enters, the split goes either to the Xerograph Deluxe directly or to an overdrive or whatever before the filter. stuff like the bi-mode, delays or echos go after. The D/V has it's own set of things too, a somewhat snarly distortion, an octave (up), and one other thing. So basically on stage, I have this then drop the other stuff below or next to it. New larger pedal board to come.

The Divaricator is a cool pedal, not very glorious but it allows you to dial in where you want the 'split' then you can adjust how much of the clean low below that point, how much of the effected high above it and how much clean unaltered signal it outputs. If you decide you don't want it to recombine, you can use the crossover then not have the high loop re-enter the pedal and send lows to one amp and highs to another. It also has a noise gate you can dial into the loop if you're using high gain or noisy stuff.

It also means that I can have the effects on and set in the loop and engage them with a single step rather than futzing with multiples for songs where I'm in and out with it for different parts.

Sounds really interesting! I'll put it on the list things I have to try :D It's kinda pricey here in Germany, though

Some have tried it and not really found it useful, and I took a while to dial it in a bit. It was useful enough to work on our new release though. The Xerograph Deluxe is probably one of the more extreme filter/envelopes out there, which also means it can be a bit difficult to control on the deep lows, even though it allows you to sculpt the filter's parameters. By tailoring the crossover point it can't get into trouble, and also things like delay or verb which tend to be messy in the bass frequencies are totally usable on the stuff above the crossover.

Ugh..... haven't gone down this road yet... key word I'm sure is yet....
I kinda started and quickly realized I like simple. But there are 2 or 3 pedals I like a LOT. though I think only one would be for live.

I used to do something similar when I ran separate pres into stereo channels separate speakers.

It's pretty cool - although I'm not sure I'd want the DG knobs. I want want want a Combustion 6. Finally!!

I hab a set of Dingwall knobs on order. I actually have 4 out of 5 needed, but it's that damn 5th. ;) I really like having a visual on where I have things set...and the dome knobs don't give me that. The DG knobs at least have that going for them, but I think volume sweep rolls would be difficult.
