It's pretty cool - although I'm not sure I'd want the DG knobs. I want want want a Combustion 6. Finally!!

For me the big drivers here would be the matte silver finish & the D-Bird switch. That may be a restricted item in the future, given how they've restricted NG-2 mods until the kits coming out.

What's the price point on one of the Darkglass anniversary NG-3? Depending on that I might have to make something work out.

This is something I do not know. If you're indeed serious, contact a dealer, or if you don't have one (or one near you) contact the shop directly. Carrie is pretty good about getting back to people.

"Kits"? Must have missed something. Is there going to be a mod kit to do the 3x conversion?

My Combustion has 2 of the FD3 4-L pickups in it now and I recently saw a P-Tone here in the classifieds and jumped on it. I am thinking about doing the 3x mod. I guess I need to dig back through the posts here to figure it out.

Does anybody have a link to wiring diagrams?

Second question "Rapid Fire". What is the difference between the FD3 4-L and the stock Combustion pickups? FD-3n is stock on all the Combustions newer than June 2014 right?

I assume that with the FD-3n that the "n" means neodymium... Right?

What are the FD3 4-L's?
FD-3n are on the V4 combustions, which would have started in about 2014. They may have also been on the V3 combustions in 2013, but FD-3A pickups were on the V1 and V2 combustions. Between the FD-3 4L and FD-3N, not really sure of the difference other than that the FD-3N are on the combustion line and 4L are on the Canadian basses. They are both neodymium and 4 conductor.

There is a kit coming out soon, but it may only be for the newer pickup shells since those are the only basses that will fit a 3x config without additional routing. If you already have the pickups, check out this thread from @Jeff Roller as he went through a similar process in the pre-kit days: Dingwall NG2 to NG3 conversion

Yep. But you'll want to verify details. Here's the official word from Sheldon:

So...as it states, there's been a bunch of problems depending on the pickups, versions etc., along the way. So you'll want to make sure that it works for what you're doing. Also, I think it's pretty slick to offer the right pickguard.

Some of this terminology may be old or evolving. The original version of these pickups were FD-3's (Fury Dingwall model 3). They had coils that were in parallel. Right around 2005 or so, it became apparent that people were interested in having series coils or an option and some people were modding their stock pickups...so the shop put out what was known as the FD-3-4L (also there was a Mach II designation, but I'm not sure that that was a difference beyond the 4L). 4L stood for 4 LEAD, meaning the pickup coils had their own leads and you could parallel or series them at will by way of wiring.

(EDITED) Doing some research it looks like the FD-3a's are the 2 (plus ground) lead version of the FD3's originally slated for Combustion builds. The 3n's are the neo-magnet 4-lead. The FDV are the alnico 'vintage' tone version. The "Mach" designation is a hotter output version of the standard FD-3 usually used in bridge position.

FD-3n are on the V4 combustions, which would have started in about 2014. They may have also been on the V3 combustions in 2013, but FD-3A pickups were on the V1 and V2 combustions. See the above note. 4L refers to whether the pickup had the possibility of being coil-wired in series or in parallel or switchable. I think most of the a la carte FD-3's are 4L these days. I can't state much about the stock Combustion pickups.

The old Combustion FD-3A were 2 conductor and the newer FD-3N are 4 conductor. Still not sure of the tonal differences between an FD-3 and an FD-3N.

Ugh..... haven't gone down this road yet... key word I'm sure is yet....
I've never been a pedal guy. I currently have a Diamond compressor, a Radial bassbone and a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes. I have been messing around with the Darkglass and really like it with my AB 3x. I like the warmth it adds by setting the era control towards the left. I could see using it as a set and forget type pedal. But I've never really gotten into pedals in any serious way.

I don't know if it's been mentioned here or not, but sometime in the very recent past the Dingwall website got a major upgrade. The old website is still on the old version, but on a proper computer you can see the new site. It's really slick, its got good design, and there are now online order forms for all the different models.
Looks great!

I still get the 'old' site on any of my computers but I did get a quick peek at the new one earlier this week and it's beautiful. I haven't said anything because I didn't know how much of a secret it is and I don't want to ruin any unveiling if that's going to be a deal. But since a few have seen it...

Did I read somewhere that Dingwall is no longer selling only the D-Bird switch like @Jeff Roller used for his conversion? His conversion didn't look that difficult. My brother has a full wood shop and does a lot of cool work. I think this would be an easy conversion after I got a new pickguard ordered. I realize that there might be some wiring and magnetic polarity problems, but that could probably be figured out.

I seem to recall seeing somewhere that someone sent their combustion off to a luthier and had a turnkey conversion. I can't seem to find that thread.
