Did I read somewhere that Dingwall is no longer selling only the D-Bird switch like @Jeff Roller used for his conversion? His conversion didn't look that difficult. My brother has a full wood shop and does a lot of cool work. I think this would be an easy conversion after I got a new pickguard ordered. I realize that there might be some wiring and magnetic polarity problems, but that could probably be figured out.

I seem to recall seeing somewhere that someone sent their combustion off to a luthier and had a turnkey conversion. I can't seem to find that thread.

The reality is that the switch was less the problem and the more problematic was the pickups playing nicely together given the different variations in phase/winding along the way. Sheldon's initial message about not supporting the change was reinforced when I talked to a dealer who said they'd heard of people who had trouble with home-brew upgrades with preamp/pickup/noise happening.

Jeff's (Tech @ Dingwall) messaging is that given all of this the shop doesn't have enough time/effort to support everyone who wants to do this on their own since all the problems eventually make it back to them anyway.

...I don't know this for sure, but if this were my baby, I'd be limiting those 3X-DB switches because it becomes a driver and value item for D-Birds and/or instruments like the new Darkglass limited NG's.

I don't know if it's been mentioned here or not, but sometime in the very recent past the Dingwall website got a major upgrade. The old website is still on the old version, but on a proper computer you can see the new site. It's really slick, its got good design, and there are now online order forms for all the different models.

Sounds like they're in the middle of transitioning. It's shunting mobile browsers to the new site and standard browsers to the the original site (which is slow as heck right now too).

I assume they'll get it sorted shortly. The one I saw looks to be the dev version.

Damn, that Darkglass Dingwall looks pretty sweet. 2 of the best companies out there...it might be time for me to get a 2nd Dingwall

I've never been a pedal guy. I currently have a Diamond compressor, a Radial bassbone and a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes. I have been messing around with the Darkglass and really like it with my AB 3x. I like the warmth it adds by setting the era control towards the left. I could see using it as a set and forget type pedal. But I've never really gotten into pedals in any serious way.

This is basically what I do with my VMT - it's an "almost" set and forget pedal, I kick it on in choruses with just a touch more hair, so it gives that little bit more oomph

So...as it states, there's been a bunch of problems depending on the pickups, versions etc., along the way. So you'll want to make sure that it works for what you're doing. Also, I think it's pretty slick to offer the right pickguard.

Thanks so much for this info - you've just changed my order for my Combustion. Would much rather have the factory 3X option if I can.

Cool. It makes more sense if you've got one on order to have it done in shop. They quality of the conversion will obviously be where you probably want it.

Also, the pickguard cuts are pretty tight, so anyone doing it 'at home' will want someone who can really cut a guard with precision especially if you like the standard carbon fiber print guard...they don't after-market those, so you get one chance. I'd think the 'kits' for conversion are the way to go for anyone who wants to do this.

Yep. This morning was the first time it showed up on standard browser for me with the right web address. : ) I noticed a few wonky things yesterday (in the FAQ's and such) but beyond that, It's good.

...and like a miracle, Darkglass comes out with a pedal that solves all my issues with DI, modelling cabs and practicing in one pedal:

I'm not going to use it for extreme distortion, but it ticks all the boxes for me. Headphone out? Check. Switchable distortion? Check. Eq with high/low pass/cut? Check. Programmable cab simulation? Check.

I'm gonna love this thing with my Super P5. Adding grit before my amp and just getting great tones for recording. I'm so excited!

I have the rc300 loop station I think is what it's called and don't use it a whole heck of a lot. I also just bought my first(technically second) compressor. The diamond as well. I bought an Ebs used first but it had some noise I didn't like. the DG pedals have been taunting me as a gateway but haven't pulled any triggers yet.

I see ampeg is putting out a new pedal comp which may be up my alley. I've just finally got a handle on bass buying and I'm tettering on the edge with amps!! I wanna try so many different heads.
