Ok, so, I was completely into Dingwall basses. I owned a Combustion and an ABZ. LOVED them completely. Then came the left shoulder issues which made playing bass painful, much less playing a 37" B-string. Had surgery, which turned out to be, thankfully, less rotator cuff and more arthroscopic. Sold the Dingwalls, went to 34' basses, and went on about my business.

Fast forward a few years...

I'm older, but my shoulder is 98%, and my band is showing no signs of slowing down. I've been playing Kiesel Vader basses for the last year or so. Great basses. Sound good, look cool, easy to carry. Kiesel has a fanned-fret lineup including the Vanquish bass. My "problem" is this, if I'm gonna play fanned-fret basses, I'd rather play Dingwalls. I think Sheldon Dingwall is one of the best dudes around. He offered me some advice when I was having my shoulder issues, which I thought was extremely classy. That has stayed with me. So after perusing the NAMM threads, I've decided that I owe it to myself to get back on the Dingwall train. It's gonna take me a bit, but my plan is to have a couple of Dingwalls by the end of the year. I'd love to have ABZs, but I think NG-2/3s are probably more reasonable. I live in Indiana, so there isn't a Dingwall dealer anywhere near me, but I've reached out to them in order to get things lined up for when I'm ready. @bebass -Would you be able to help a brotha' out? I'm trying to get all the info so I can get everything situated to make a few moves. Thanks guys and gals!

I hear you on the body issues. I have had my share of those type of problems as well. I worked as a pain therapist in a clinic for about 35 years so I have seen quite a bit of these situations as well as my own. My feeling is the DIngwall basses are more ergonomic than many others and for me are easier to play than many others. You may appreciate the D-bird, or Super series, so maybe look into that. Everyone has to find the right fit for themselves. Good straps can also make a huge difference. And having roadies can also help ha ha. Lightweight bass gear also rules for those of us with injuries.

It sounds fantastic loaded with the Darkglass Tone Capsule, and I'm a huge fan of Darkglass electronics. I like the pickup placements near the bridge side by side, wired with a selector rather than a blend, and I bet it sound awesome in series mode. I've never really been a fan of blend controls, and all my current basses have them.

I've never tried a FF bass before, and the curiosity is growing.

When I played my first one I was thinking, "No way can anyone play this! But in 3 minutes I was wondering why the heck I hadn't looked at these fan fret designs before now! One great thing is that we are looking at what simple physics consideration does when applied to a bass design.

The Super series helped me rejoin the DW family. I also had an ABZ which I loooooved but had to sell it due to a mean tendonitis. Played a jazz bass for 2 years and recently got a great deal on a SJ

This is what I'd suggest too. Shorter scale, still fanned, lighter.

I've been contemplating pulling the trigger on a few used AB basses over the last few years. In the end, after a lot of soul searching, I've realised the Super P5 was what I wanted. I've always been a p-bass kind of person, I just never found the right one. My former bass, a custom built bass, had so many bells and whistles. In the end though, I never used half of the functions. One pickup and a Tone Fusion is literally all I could ever need. It does everything I need it to.

Did I ever tell you the story of how I came to buy my SP5? It's somewhat of a Cinderella story.

It’s now been over 2 weeks without a response from the shop.
I bought a TShirt and money has been paid but no response.
I emailed 3 times so far to both sales and store and no response.
Are they having issues with the new site where emails are not getting thru?
I want to buy knobs too. But, have hold off until I know what’s going on.

They are totally slammed, I ended up calling them to put the deposit down on my dbird and they told me as much.
I finally got a reply to my emails about 2 weeks after sending, just hang in there and they’ll get back to you.

@Waltsdog hit the nail on the head. With the launch of the new products customer demand has been extreme. And NAMM was packed with enthusiasts of the bass world. Those are some busy folks up there. Probably the fastest growing bass company. What I have learned dealing with Dingwall Guitars is to have patience as they always do see to my question or issue, it just sometimes takes time for them to field all the responses.

But I am curious to hear it! I am a recent P bass convert after trying a 5er and 4-string NG2.

Yep. They're really busy, but also NAMM was a totally wild-card wrench in the shop-works, especially when it comes to a year where they release a lot of stuff. My last communication with the shop is Jan. 19th from an order on Jan 12th. I assume that things will get out the door eventually and I wouldn't take it personally. The last email I got alludes to NAMM chaos. I'd guess that Carrie is buried right now.

Yeah, if you check the website this what it reflects. The thought of an indigo burst, swamp ash, quilt maple top, 6 string, 3x Combustion is going to be keeping me awake at night. Wow. Can't wait to see those combustions coming off the line! Knocking it out of the damn park, @Sheldon D.
