Disgraceful ads--why does TB post them?

TB doesn't have direct control over ad placement and I'm pretty confident they wouldn't have selected that one.
Edit: I'm so used to TB being ad-free for me that I take it for granted. But not everyone wants or can afford a gold membership.

You get ads based on your browsing history. So if you don't like the ads, you need to change the type of websites you look at.
I'm a non paying member, zero ad's, not even sure where you're seeing them here.... My ad blocker works perfectly in this regard
I never used to see ads. I'm a supporting member and lately I have been seeing them. Something has changed....

Yep, ad blockers work fine for me, too. Ads are served up to websites like this by third party companies; the website doesn't pick and choose which ads you see, you do when you browse, to some extent. These companies know a lot about you based on your past history, so they try to guess what you might be interested in based on that info. If you don't browse much the ad company will just serve you whatever it thinks you might be interested in. So it's misplaced to blame TB for the content of their ads.
Yes, but if they roughly know your age and other demographic information (and they do) they will toss these ads at whoever they think might be interested. So even if you've never looked for something exactly like that before, you're going to be targeted because someone within the ad service classified that ad as being appropriate to your demographic. Sorry, it's just how these things work.
I'm guessing ad batches do not come with tags like "this might be construed at misogyny by someone" or "this is totally safe from all opinions." Not saying it's an awesome ad. Pretty much none of them are. They're ads. Also not put here maliciously.
Back when I was doing stuff like website management, there was some limited and very broad control over what would be displayed, but the categories you could choose were pretty broad. I had a site that was pet-centric, so I could refine my ads to a degree to make sure I was targeting people who had interest in animals, but you can't choose on the basis of something that might seem offensive to someone.
I would guess that ad would be classified as something like "celebrity interest" and that's about as narrow as these things allow you to go. I didn't click the ad, so maybe it has some connection to weight loss, which might be categorized as "self-improvement." You're not going to get to deselect a category labeled "misogyny."
I just checked and Jennifer Grey definitely doesn’t make my grandmother look like a prom queen. Of course, my grandmother has been dead for over twenty years...
