Do I Deserve a Boutique Bass?

Ok so i laid my hands on a Dingwall Combustion and was very impressed. I didn't play one, but the local dealer has an AB1 Afterburner in stock. I am very very tempted by that. I understand the difference among the Canadian basses and they seem worth it. Honestly it's actually rare that I'm in the position to afford one. I am only half joking about deserving it, but I really am a hack. I see players better that me constantly. In fact most seem to be especially among my age. My only real confidence stems from the fact that other people want me to play for them. I have never considered that kind of money for a bass, but that B string is to die for. Even the Combustion makes my Stingray 5 feel like an old clunker! Aaaaaagh!!

I have one and love it. I live in Saskatoon where they sent back to Canada where it is checked and tested to make sure they are up to par! I know the guy that designed and built the company, Sheldon Dingwall.

There's an old saying: "Folks don't always get what they deserve." So... if you have a chance to get one and you really really need it to quell that clenched up whirlpool in your gut, go for it! I am really impressed that other people want you to play for them! You need a good sounding piece of wood to give the respect you feel in that gift you have. Wish I could hear some of your music sometime.

PS, Oh yeah, they are around 8 lbs also! My AB1-5 feels better than any bass I have/had.

OP Here: You know what guys, I mulled over it all weekend and had myself talked into going to pick it up Tuesday morning. Well I woke up and the feeling in my gut told me not to do it. I still have some credit card debt. Nothing un manageable, but I am a fool for servicing it all these years. I made a decision to get clear of debt before springing on something like that. My house is filled with crap that I just "had to have" that now collects dust. I took the money and paid off a card with it.

Then I went to Bassman28's shop locally and got an LTD F-205 for like 1/17th of what that AB would have. You know? It may not be a Dingwall, but it plays well and actually sounds better than my Stingrays for the type of music we do. I don't think it gets much more Metal than that!!

Thanks. There is still one more to pay. That will take some time, but will be easier that the other 3 are paid off. Now I am focused on that!! Going to start selling some stuff!!
