Do small round speaker grills look cheap to you?

It's odd, isn't it? You never see guitar cabinets with metal grills. Any thoughts on why?

My guess is it's a stylistic choice. Also, it probably requires a little more fabrication to make one for a slant baffled cab. Older Mesa/Boogie guitar enclosures had black metal grills. A guitarist I used to play with had two of the metal grilled vertical 2x12 cabs, and they definitely looked mean (and sounded mean too!).

I think some older Randal cabs had metal grills too.

I'm not a fan of the look, myself. I built a GB 15/6 and did a full metal front grill over the entire baffle. I think it looks awesome. I also painted my baffle white, so it kinda gives a similar effect, I guess.
