Firstly...i actually like to be called "Sir"....I like feeling respected

Do you guys remember the Hamer Cruise bass ads when they came out....Naked girl hugging the jazz bass and a love letter in the script?

I was so offended...I wrote to Bass Player mag complaining.....It eleminated all women bass players and seemed so sexist

Perhaps I was being too rigid when I was young, but I was shocked that in 1996? That kind of marketing was being used in our enlightened age of equality...HA!!!!!

I've probably been in contact with all of the higher profile women on the board at one point by PM, so I probably should have just messaged them to ask their opinions.

Actually I am surprised at some of the responses I have read. Maybe I shouldn't be. Yeesh, it's not a big deal, if someone wants to addressed in a certain way it's very simple to address them in that manner. No big deal. We are making simple respect seem like the burden of Sisyphus.

It is hilarious how many guys here are offended at the suggestion that they should stop referring to grown women as girls.
I would love to be witness to a stranger saying to you "Hey boy, would you please move your car, it's blocking the thing I need to get to."
There are very obviously plenty of places we can all use the term boy or girl affectionately, the same as guy and gal, and dude and chick.
None of that has anything to do with the fact that many, many men worldwide refer to grown women with a term that denotes a non grown woman....be it girl, or chica, or whatever.
Start calling all the men you are in contact with, boy for the next month, and let's see how that experiment works out.

Of course in wasting my time trying to sway your opinion, but at the same time you missed my point completely. Once again, my use of girl was in a respectful manner, opposite of how you described. If you can't tell the difference then I am wasting my time, which I'm pretty sure I am.

RE: Dude!

Way back in 1996 I got every Thai person in our division saying dude. Its was our standard greeting in the morning.
I'll never forget the look on one of our Canadian customers who came in, Mike.
He had ordered something today & wanted it tomorrow.
My roommate, Chutchawahn, looked at him with the most serious face & said, "Dude, you can't order something from North America today & expect to get it tomorrow!".
Mike went to our boss over that one, so we had to stop randomly calling people dude, at work. We still did it outside work. The guy who took our orders at lunch was perpetually called dude.
