Do you find natural finish ugly?

This is a personal choice, neither right not wrong. To me, they look like a naked man standing outside of a cathedral. Consider the effect, if he were to put on a suit.

As others have said, it depends upon the wood. My rule(s) of thumb:
Beautiful wood = natural finish
Good but not great looking wood = translucent finish
Ugly wood = paint

At this point in time, all of my instruments except my EB-0 are natural finish. The EB-0 is tranluscent red. I would probably get a painted instrument only if I were to get a lower end travel/beater bass.

Natural is nice, but I prefer transparent colored finishes with nice wood grain.

I have a squier 70s jazz bass with a natural finish and I think it looks kind of unappealing. What do you guys think of natural wood color? (I'm going to sand my bass down and repaint it, maybe black)

What do people think of brown basses?
I find green basses a bit meh...

Nice grain, too.

I think it would look dope as hell if I did a grey wash on it with a black (textured) graphite pick guard. But, It's good like it is. I wouldn't want to screw it up, or take it out of service for too long.

Out of 50+ basses, I've only owned 9 or so that were painted. Love wood grain. Even if it's not "natural", a translucent stain showing the wood grain is better than solid paint in my opinion.
