Do you guys like your hipshot d tuners?

Love it! After dropping to the D, all the notes (Eb, E,, F, Gb, G etc) on the "E" string become richer sounding. That's the best way I can describe it.

I saw that they have a double-stop model now as well. Does anyone know if the notes must be a whole step apart? I was thinking being able to drop to Eb and D would be extremely useful, but if the dropped notes have to be a whole step apart that wouldn't be possible...

You can set the double stop model to D-tune a half step down if you want.

The attached pic shows the back of the headstock of my 4 string Xotic J bass, tuned E A D G. What you are looking at is my custom Hipshot double D-tuner, this allows me to drop my E and A string down to C# and F# at the same time at the flip of one lever.

They are very well made and very reliable in terms of intonation. That said, I found I just didn't use it very much

Just installed the double stop "upgrade kit" on my P after 5 years with the standard config... fell in love all over again!

I've liked them since they first came out and I put one on my StingRay (must have been around 1983?). I've had them on Fenders, Music Mans, Laklands, Hammers, and Guilds, just about every 4-string I've owned. I've used them successfully with flats, modified flats (GHS Brite-Flats and D'Addario Half-rounds) and roundwound strings.

Follow the set up and tuning instructions carefully, make sure your strings are in good shape, and put a little powdered graphite in the nut slot when you restring the bass. Most problems people have with them (I also sold and installed them until I quit retail in '88) are because they don't tune up the way the instructions say to or they don't tune carefully.

Saved me from getting a five-string bass for at least a decade.

Yes. I currently have one on my Dingwall and I love it, it is my go to bass when making transcriptions for people for that exact reason.

Ok. I'm sold. I'm going to order one. I usually take two basses to gigs and I only use the d tuned one twice. So this will really just cut out that need. But I wasn't going to spend 100 on one tuner unless I knew it was a good idea. Thanks.

Check eBay first. I found a ton for $50-60 a few weeks ago. All brand new
