Okay, maybe a stupid thread, but Jaco had the Bass of Doom, Jamerson had The Funk Machine, SRV named all his guitars, etc. I believe Steve Bailey related a story in an interview about how his high-school music teacher told him that "If you love an instrument, you will eventually give it a name".
I've owned over 100 basses, so that's a lot of lovin', and a lot of names ( I suddenly feel a bit sleazy ), so I'll start off with the ones I remember that got names-
Musicman basses- Ginger, the Bullfrog, Elvira, J.P.,
Rick basses- were all named as centerfords- Miss August, Miss October, Miss February (had two, 73 and 75 ), Miss December, Miss June, Miss September, Miss April
Fender basses- for all the 26 Fenders I've had, only names were Johnny, The New Yorker, and The Slug.
Kubicki's- Whitey and Dino
Gibson Victory- Wicked Wanda
G&L's- The Crown Royal Tiger, the BoomSnake, Shelley, the Golden Bear, Marilyn, the Professor, Rocky, Tony 3B's, the Sea-hag, Bart, the Hatchet, and PigPen.
